AXOLOTL

This was an unexpected request from my Pokemon-obsessed customer on Etsy.  He said that he was getting it for a friend.  Unlike most items that I have for him, Axolotl was an easy one.  This is the pattern that I came up with for Axolotl.

MATERIALS:
Worsted weight yarn:  Baby pink, fuchsia, and black.
E crochet hook
Polyester fiberfill
Tapestry needle

SPECIAL STITCHES:
Half treble (htr): Yarn over twice, insert hook in next st, yarn over, pull loop up, yarn over, pull through 2 loops, yarn, pull through 3 loops.
Half double treble (hdtr): Yarn over 3 times, insert hook in next st, yarn over, pull up loop, yarn over, pull through 2 loops, yarn over, pull through 2 loops, yarn over, pull through 3 loops.
Double treble (dtr): Yarn over 3 times, insert hook in next st, yarn over, pull up loop, (yarn over, pull through 2 loops) 3 times.

BODY:
Rd 1: With baby pink, ch 3, sc in second ch from hook, 3 sc in next ch working around ch, working in free loop of foundation ch, 2 sc in next ch.  (6)
Rd 2: (sc in next 2 sc, 3 sc in next sc) around.  (10)
Rd 3: (sc in next 3 sc, 3 sc in next sc, sc in next sc) around.  (14)
Rd 4: (sc in next 4 sc, 3 sc in next sc, sc in next 2 sc) around.  (18)
Rd 5: (sc in next 5 sc, 3 sc in next sc, sc in next 3 sc) around.  (22)

Rd 59: sc in each sc around.  (5)

Rds 61-62: sc in each sc around.  (4)
Finish off leaving a long tail.  Weave tail through sc of Rd 62, pull tightly and secure.  Weave in ends.
Using black, embroider eyes and mouth on AXOLOTL.

TOP FIN:
Rw 1: With baby pink, ch 39, slip st in second ch from hook, sc in next 2 ch, hdc in next 3 ch, dc in next 3 ch, htr in next 3 ch, tr in next 3 ch, hdtr in next 3 ch, dtr in next 5 ch, hdtr in next 2 ch, tr in next ch, htr in next 2 ch, dc in next 2 ch, hdc in next 3 ch, sc in next 3 ch, slip st in next 5 ch.
Finish off leaving a long tail.  Sew TOP FIN to BODY with first slip at tip of tail and last slip st at base on head.  Weave in ends.

BOTTOM FIN:
Rw 1: With baby pink, ch 32, slip st in second ch from hook, sc in next 2 ch, hdc in next 3 ch, dc in next 5 ch, htr in next 3 ch, tr in next 5 ch, htr in next 3 ch, dc in next 3 ch, hdc in next 2 ch, sc in next 2 ch, slip st in next 2 ch.
Finish off leaving a long tail.  Sew BOTTOM FIN on BODY.  Weave in ends.

LEGS (MAKE 4):
Rw 1: With baby pink, ch 9, sc in second ch from hook and in each ch across.  (8)
Rws 2-3: Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc across.  (8)
Rd 4: Ch 1, turn; sc in next 8 sc, working in side of Rws, ch 3, slip st in next Rw, (ch 3, slip st, ch 3, slip st) in Rw.
Finish off leaving a long tail.  Sew side of LEGS closed.  Sew Rw 1 and Rw 4 together.  Sew LEGS to BODY.  Weave in ends.

GILLS (MAKE 2):
Rw 1: With fuchsia, ch 7, slip st in second ch from hook, slip st in next 2 ch, sc in next 3 ch.  (6)
Rws 2-3: Ch 7, slip st in second ch from hook, slip st in next 2 ch, sc in next 3 ch.  (6)
Finish off leaving a long tail.  Sew GILLS to BODY.  Weave in ends.
