LITTLE CAPTAIN AMERICA


This is rendering of the famed Captain America character from MARVEL  Captain America comics.  It is the continuing series of dolls depicting popular comics book characters.  I starting on comics characters as a respond that I was making characters that were for girls.  This pattern can be used to make any version of Captain America from the TV series to the movies.

MATERIALS:
Worsted weight yarn:  Buff, white, blue, red and gray.
D crochet hook
White and black embroidery floss
Polyester fiberfill
Tapestry needle

DOLL:
BODY:
Rd 1: With blue, ch 2, 5 sc in second ch from hook working around ch.  (5)
Rd 2: 2 sc in next 2 sc, sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc.  (9)
Rd 3: (sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around.  (12)
Rd 4 (sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around.  (15)
Rds 5-6: sc in each sc around.  (15)  Change to buff.
NOW WORKING JOINED ROUNDS.
Rd 7: slip st in next sc, ch1, sc in same sc as slip st, sc in next 5 sc, change to blue, sc in next 9 sc, join with slip st in first sc.  (15)
Rd 8: Ch 1, turn; sc in next 9 sc, change to buff, sc in next 6 sc, join.  (15)
Rd 9: Ch 1, turn; (sc2tog) 3 times, change to blue, (sc2tog) 4 times, sc in next sc.  (8)
NOW WORKING IN UNJOINED ROUNDS AGAIN.
Rds 10-11: sc in each sc around.  (8)
Rd 12: (sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) around.  (12)
Rd 13: 2 sc in next 5 sc, sc in next 7 sc.  (17)
Rd 14: sc in each sc around.  (17)
Rd 15: (sc2tog) 5 times, sc in next 7 sc.  (12)  Change to red
NOW WORKING IN ALTERNATING RED AND WHITE SC FOR NEXT 3 ROUNDS.
Rd 16: Ch 1, sc in each sc around, join  (12)
Rd 17: Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc around, join.  (12)
Rd 18: Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc around, join changing to blue.  (12)
Rds 19-20: sc in each sc around.  (12)
BEGIN STUFFING BATMAN DOLL AT THIS POINT AND CONTINUE TO STUFF AS YOU GO.
RIGHT LEG:
Rd 21: sc in next 3 sc, skip next 6 sc, sc in next 3 sc.  (6)
Rds 22-26: sc in each sc around.  (6)  Change to red.
Rds 27-28: sc in each sc around.  (6)
Rd 29: sc2tog, sc in next 4 sc.  (5)
Rd 30: sc in next sc, 2 sc in next 2 sc, sc in next 2 sc.  (7)
Rd 31: sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next 2 sc, sc in next 3 sc.  (9)
Rd 32: sc in each sc around.  (9)
Rd 33: Working in back loops only, (sc in next sc, sc2tog) around.  (6)
Finish off.  Whipstitch the opening closed lining the stitches up.  Weave in ends.
LEFT LEG:
Rd 21: Attach black in first skipped sc f Rd 20 with slip st, ch 1, sc in same sc as slip st and in next 5 sc.  (6)
Rds 22-33: Repeat instructions of RIGHT LEG.

ARMS (MAKE 2):
STUFF ARMS AS YOU GO.
 Rd 1: With red, ch 2, 5 sc in second ch from hook working around ch.  (5)
Rds 2-4: sc in each sc around.  (5)  Change to white after Rd 4.
Rds 5-6: sc in each sc around.  (5)  Change to blue after Rd 6.
Rds 7-9: sc in each sc around.  (5)
Rd 10: sc2tog, sc in next 3 sc.  (4)
Finish off leaving a long tail to sew ARMS to BODY.

EARS WINGS:
LEFT:
Rw 1: Working on side of HEAD, attach gray, ch 1, sc in next 2 sc.  (2)
Rw 2: Ch 1, turn; sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc.  (3)
Finish off.  Weave in ends.
RIGHT:
Rw 1: Working on side of HEAD, attach gray, ch 1, sc in next 2 sc.  (2)
Rw 2: Ch 1, turn; 2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc.  (3)
Finish off.  Weave in ends.

SHIELD:
Rd 1: Working in joined rounds and with blue, ch 2, 5 sc in second ch from hook working around ch, join with slip st with first ch.  (5)
Rd 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in each sc around, join changing to red.  (10)
Rd 3: Ch 1, (sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) around, join changing to white.  (15)
Rd 4: Ch 1, (sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around, join changing to red.  (20)
Rd 5: Ch 1, (sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around, join.  (25)
Finish off.  Weave in ends.  Embroider a star in center f SHIED.  Attach SHIELD to LEFT ARM.

ASSEMBLY:
Sew ARMS to BODY.

Use embroidery floss to embroider star on chest, A on forehead, nose, eyes, and mouth on doll.
