PANINI THE BETTA FISH

This is a personal request from a friend because she was afraid that she was going to lose him soon. Unfortunately, I was not able to finish him before Panini the Betta Fish passed.

MATERIALS:
Worsted weight yarn: White and burgundy.
F crochet hook
Polyester fiberfill
Tapestry needle
white crochet cotton
12mm white safety eyes

BODY:
Rds 1-14 are done holding white crochet cotton and burgundy yarn together.
Rd 1: With body color, 6 sc in magic ring. (6)
Rd 2: 2 sc in each sc around. (12)
Rd 3: 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 10 sc, 2 sc in next sc. (14)
Rd 4: 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 12 sc, 2 sc in next sc. (16)
Rd 5: 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 14 sc, 2 sc in next sc. (18)
Rd 6: 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 16 sc, 2 sc in next sc. (20)
Rd 7: 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 18 sc, 2 sc in next sc. (22)
Rd 8: 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 20 sc, 2 sc in next sc. (24)
Rds 9-14: sc in each sc around. (24) Change to white.
Rds 15-24: sc in each sc around. (24)
INSERT SAFETY EYES BETWEEN RDS 6 AND 7 WITH 6 SC BETWEEN EACH EYES.
BEGIN STUFFING BODY FIRMLY. CONTINUE STUFFING BODY FIRMLY AS YOU GO ALONG.

Rd 25: (sc in next 10 sc, sc2tog) around. (22)
Rd 26: sc in each sc around. (22)
Rd 27: (sc in next 9 sc, sc2tog) around. (20)
Rd 28: sc in each sc around. (20)
Rd 29: (sc in next 8 sc, sc2tog) around. (18)
Rd 30: sc in each sc around. (18)
Rd 31: (sc in next 7 sc, sc2tog) around. (16)
Rd 32: sc in each sc around. (16)
Rd 33: (sc in next 6 sc, sc2tog) around. (14)
Rd 34: (sc in next 5 sc, sc2tog) around. (12)
Rd 35: Flatten the body and working through both layers, sc in next 6 sc. (6)
Rd 36: Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc across. (6)
Rd 37: Ch 2, turn; (2 dc in next sc, 3 dc in next sc) across. (15) Change to burgundy.
Rd 38: Ch 2, turn; (dc in next dc, 2 dc in next 2 dc, dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc) across. (24)
Rd 39: Ch 2, turn; (dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc) across. (36)
Rd 40: Ch 2, turn; (dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc) across. (48)
Finish off. Weave in ends.

BOTTOM FIN:
Rw 1: Attach white in the side of Rd 34, ch 2, dc in next 14 Rds, sc in next 2 Rds. (16) Change to burgundy.
Rw 2: Ch 2, dc2tog, (dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc) across. (22)
Rw 3: Ch 2, (2 dc in next dc, dc in next 2 dc) 5 times, dc in next 4 dc, dc3tog. (25)
Rw 4: Ch 2, (dc3tog) twice, dc in next 7 dc, (dc in next 4 dc, 2 dc in next dc) 3 times. (27)
Rw 5: Ch 2, 2 dc in next dc, dc in next 2 dc, hdc in next 2 dc, sc in next 4 dc, slip st in next sc. (11)
Finish off. Weave in ends.

TOP FIN:
Rw 1: Attach white in the side of Rd 22, ch 2, dc2tog, dc in next Rd, hdc in next 2 Rds, sc in next 2 Rds. (6)
Rw 2: Ch 2, turn; 2 dc in next st, dc in next 4 sts, dc in next st. (7)
Rw 3: Ch 1, turn; sc in next 2 sts, change to burgundy, sc in next 5 sts. (7)
Rw 4: Ch 5, slip st in second ch from hook, slip st in next ch, sc in next 2 ch, skip next sc, slip st in next sc, sc in next 3 sc, change to white, sc in next 2 sc.
Rw 5: Ch 1, turn; sc in next 2 sc, change to burgundy, sc in next 3 sc. (5)

WHISKERS:
Rw 1: Attach burgundy in bottom sc of Rd 8 with slip st, ch 11, sc in second ch from hook, sc in next 9 ch, slip st in sc of Rd 7, ch 11, sc in second ch from hook, sc in next 9 ch, slip st in same sc as attachment.
Finish off. Weave in ends.

PECTORAL FINS (MAKE 2):
Rd 1: With burgundy, 8 sc in magic ring. (8)
Rd 2: 2 sc in each sc around. (16)
Finish off leaving a long tail. Sew PECTORAL FINS to BODY. Weave in ends.
