PINK "MONSTER" HAT

This is a pattern for a pink “monster” hat can be adjusted for all ages by changing the hook size and/or yarn thickness.

MATERIALS:
Worsted weight yarn: Lt. pink, hot pink, white, black, and blue.
H crochet hook
Tapestry needle

HAT BODY:
Rd 1: With lt. pink, 15 dc in magic ring, slip in first dc.  (15)
Rd 2: Ch 2 (does not count as a dc), dc in next dc, 2 dc in next 7 dc, dc in next dc, 2 dc in next 6 dc, join.  (28)
Rd 3: Ch 2, (dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc) twice, (dc in next 2 dc, 2 dc in next dc) 8 times, join.  (38)
Rd 4: Ch 2, (dc in next 4 dc, 2 dc in next dc) 4 times, (dc in next 5 dc, 2 dc in next dc) 3 times,  (45)
Rd 5: Ch 2, (dc in next 4 dc, 2 dc in next dc) around, join.  (54)
Rd 6: Ch 2, (dc in next 8 dc, 2 dc in next dc) around, join.  (60)
Rd 7: Ch 2, dc in next 9 dc, 2 dc in next dc, dc in next 50 dc, join.  (61)
Rd 8: Ch 2, dc in next 19 dc, 2 dc in next dc, dc in next 41 dc, join.  (62)
Rd 9: Ch 2, dc in next 29 dc, 2 dc in next dc, dc in next 32 dc, join.  (63)  Change to hot pink.
Rd 10: Ch 2, dc in next 39 dc, 2 dc in next dc, dc in next 23 dc, join.  (64)  Change to lt. pink.
Rd 11: Ch 2, dc in next 49 dc, 2 dc in next dc, dc in next 14 dc, join.  (65)
Rd 12: Ch 2, dc in next 59 dc, 2 dc in next dc, dc in next 5 dc, join.  (66)
Rds 13-16; Ch 2, dc in each dc around, join.  (66)

FIRST EAR FLAP:
Rw 1: Ch 1 (does not count as a hdc), hdc in next 17 dc.  (17)
Rw 2: Ch 1, turn; hdc2tog, hdc in next 13 hdc, hdc2tog.  (15)
Rws 3-7: Ch 1, turn; hdc2tog, hdc in each hdc across to last 2 hdc, hdc2tog.  (5 after Rw 7)
Rw 8: Ch 1, turn; hdc2tog, hdc in next hdc, hdc2tog, ch 3, slip st in first st.  (3)
Finish off.

SECOND EAR FLAP:
Rw 1: Skip next 16 dc, attach lt. pink in next dc, ch 1, hdc in same dc, hdc in next 16 dc.  (17)
Rws 2-8: Same as FIRST EAR FLAP.

EDGING:
Sc around edge of hat with 5 sc in ch-3 spaces.

TIES:
For each tie, cut 3 72” pieces of lt. pink, hot pink and white.  Fringe yarn through ch-3 space opening.  French braid to desired length with 2 strains of each color each of the three sections.

EYE:
Rd 1: With black, 8 hdc in magic ring, slip st in first hdc.  (8)
Rd 2: Ch 1, 2 hdc in each hdc around, join.  (16)  Change to blue.
Rd 3: Ch 1, (hdc in next hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc) around, join.  (24)  Change to white.
Rd 4: Ch 1, (hdc in next 2 hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc) around, join.  (32)
Rd 5: Ch 1, (hdc in next 3 hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc) around, join.  (40)
Finish off leaving a long tail.  Sew EYE to HAT.

MOUTH:
Rw 1: Holding 2 strains of hot pink together, ch 22.
Finish off leaving a long tail.  Sew MOUTH to HAT.

HORNS (MAKE 2):
Rd 1: With hot pink, 8 hdc in magic ring, slip st in first hdc.  (8)
Rd 2: Ch 1, (hdc in next 3 hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc) around, join.  (10)
Rds 3-9: Ch 1, hdc in each hdc around, join.  (10)
Finish off leaving a long tail.  Sew HORNS to HAT.

BOW:
Rd 1: With white, ch 15, 2 dc in third ch from hook, dc in next 11 ch, 5 dc in next ch working around ch, working in free loops of foundation ch, dc in next 11 ch, 3 dc in next ch, slip st in first dc.  (32)
Finish off.  Weave in ends.
With lt. pink, attach BOW to HAT between HORNS by wrapping lt. pink around center of BOW and pulling tightly.
