ASTRAL BALL

This is my Pokemon-obsessed customer’s own design for his Astral Ball.  Astral Ball will the beginning of a series of custom PokeBalls for this customer.  This is the pattern that I came up with to make it come to reality.

MATERIALS:
Worst weight yarn:  White, red, and black
F crochet hook
Tennis ball or Polyester Fiberfil
Tapestry needle

BALL:
Rd 1:      With white, 6 sc in magic ring, slip st in first sc.  (6)
Rd 2:      Ch 1, turn; 2 sc in each sc around, slip st in first sc changing to red.  (12)
Rd 3:      Ch 1, turn; (sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) around, slip st in first sc changing to white.  (18)
Rd 4:      Ch 1, turn; (sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around, slip st in first sc.  (24)
Rd 5:      Ch 1, turn; (sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc) twice, sc in next sc, change to red, sc in next sc, change to white, sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc, (sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc) 3 times, slip st in first sc.  (30)
Rd 6:      Ch 1, turn; (sc in next 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc) 3 times, sc in next 2 sc, change to red, sc in next 2 sc, (sc, change to white, sc) in next sc, (sc in next 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc) twice, slip st in first sc.  (36)
Rd 7:      Ch 1, turn; (sc in next 5 sc, 2 sc in next sc) twice, sc in next sc, change to red, sc in next 3 sc, change to white, sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc, (sc in next 5 sc, 2 sc in next sc) 3 times.  (42)
Rd 8:      Ch 1, turn; sc in next 22 sc, change to red, sc in next 7 sc, change to white, sc in next 13 sc, slip st in first sc.  (42)
Rd 9:      Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc around, slip st in first sc.  (42)
Rd 10:    Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc around, slip st in first sc changing to white.  (42) 
Rd 11:    Ch 1, turn; sc in next 12 sc, change to red, sc in next 9 sc, change to white, sc in next 21 sc, slip st in first sc.  (42)
Rd 12:    Ch 1, turn; sc in next 22 sc, change to red, sc in next 7 sc, change to white, sc in next 13 sc, slip st in first sc.  (42)
Rd 13:    Ch 1, turn; sc in next 5 sc, sc2tog, sc in next 4 sc, sc2tog, change to red, sc in next 3 sc, change to white, sc in next sc, change to red, sc in next 3 sc, change to white, sc2tog, (sc in next 5 sc, sc2tog) twice, sc in next 4 sc, sc2tog, slip st in first sc.  (36)
Rd 14:    Ch 1, turn; (sc in next 4 sc, sc2tog) 3 times, change to red, sc in next 2 sc, change to white, sc in next 3 sc, change to red, sc in next 2 sc, change to white, sc2tog, sc in next 3 sc, sc2tog, sc in next 2 sc, sc2tog, slip st in first sc.  (30)
IF INSERTING TENNIS BALL, WHILE HOLDING IN PLACE, CONTINUE TO CROCHET AROUND IT.  YOU MAY NEED TO PULL YOUR FINISHED WORK TIGHTLY TO GET IT TO COVER TO COMPLETELY.
Rd 15:    Ch 1, turn; (sc in next 2 sc, sc2tog) twice, change to red, sc in next sc, change to white, sc in next 2 sc, sc2tog, sc in next sc, change to red, sc in next sc, change to white, (sc in next 3 sc, sc2tog) 3 times, slip st in first sc
Rd 16:    Ch 1, turn; (sc in next 2 sc, sc2tog) around, slip st in first sc.  (18)
IF YOU ARE STUFFING THE LUXURY BALL, THIS WOULD BE WHEN YOU WILL BE ADDING TO THE STUFFING.  CONTINUE STUFFING TO ACHIEVE DESIRED FIRMNESS.
Rd 17:    Ch 1, turn; (sc in next sc, sc2tog) around, slip st in first sc.  (12)
Rd 18:    Ch 1, turn; sc2tog around, slip st in first sc.  (6)
Finish off leaving a long tail.  Weave tail through sc of Rd 18, pull tightly, and secure.  Weave in ends.  Using gold, embroider gold line above and below Rd 3.

BUTTON:
Rd 1:      With black, ch 2, 5 sc in second ch from hook working around ch, slip st in first sc.  (5)
Rd 2:      (Ch 3, sc in second ch from hook, hdc in next ch, slip st in next sc. 
Finish off leaving a long tail.  Sew BUTTON to ASTRAL BALL over Rds 9 and 10.

STARS AND SPOTS:
Using red, embroider 4 STARS and 5 SPOTS on upper section of ASTRAL BALL.
