BRONTOSAURUS

This continues a series that I started a few years ago that I was working on.  This is the pattern that I came up for a Brontosaurus.  There are others that I am planning to do as well.  The Brontosaurus can be made in any color.  I just made this one in green because that is what my daughter wanted.



MATERIALS:

Worsted Weight Yarn:  Green, light green and black.

E Crochet Hook

Polyester Fiberfil

Tapestry needle

Set of 10 mm safety eyes



BODY:

Rd 1:      With green, ch 2, 4 sc in second ch from hook working around ch.  (4)

Rd 2:      (sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) around.  (6)

Rds 3-5:                sc in each sc around.  (6)

Rd 6:      (sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) around.  (9)

Rds 7-9:                sc in each sc around.  (9)

Rd 10:    (sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around.  (12)

Rds 11-12:           sc in each sc around.  (12)

Rd 13:    (sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around.  (15)

Rds 14-15:           sc in each sc around.  (15)

Rd 16:    (sc in next 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around.  (18)

Rds 17-18:           sc in each sc around.  (18)

Rd 19:    (sc in next 5 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around.  (21)

Rds 20-21:           sc in each sc around.  (21)

Rd 22:    (sc in next 6 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around.  (24)

Rds 23-24:           sc in each sc around.  (24)

Rd 25:    (sc in next 7 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around.  (27)

Rds 26-27:           sc in each sc around.  (27)

Rd 28:    (sc in next 8 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around.  (30)

Rds 29-30:           sc in each sc around.  (30)

Rd 31:    (sc in next 9 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around.  (33)

Rds 32-33:           sc in each sc around.  (33)

Rd 34:    (sc in next 10 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around.  (36)

Rds 35-48:           sc in each sc around.  (36)

SHAPE FRONT:

Rw 49:   slip st in first sc, ch 1, sc in same sc as slip st, sc in next 11 sc, (sc2tog) twice, sc in next 12 sc, leaving remaining sc unworked.  (26)

Rw 50:   Ch 1, turn; sc in next 26 sc.  (26)

Rw 51:   Ch 1, turn; sc in next 11 sc, (sc2tog) twice, sc in next 11 sc.  (24)

Rw 52:   Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc across.  (24)

Rw 53:   Ch 1, turn; sc in next 10 sc, (sc2tog) twice, sc in next 10 sc.  (22)

Rw 54:   Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc across.  (22)

Rw 55:   Ch 1, turn; sc in next 9 sc, (sc2tog) twice, sc in next 9 sc.  (20)

Rw 56:   Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc across.  (20)

Rw 57:   Ch 1, turn; sc in next 8 sc, (sc2tog) twice, sc in next 8 sc.  (18)

Rw 58:   Ch 1, turn; holding both sides together with wrong side facing, working in front loops of both thicknesses only, sc in next 9 sc.

Finish off.  Weave in ends.  Stuff BODY firmly. 



NECK:

Rd 1:      Attachment green in first skipped sc of Rd 48, sc in each skipped sc of Rd 48, sc in side of each row of front shaping.  (26)

Rd 2:      (sc in next 11 sc, sc2tog) around.  (24)

Rd 3:      (sc in next 4 sc, sc2tog) around.  (20)

Rds 4-10:              sc in each sc around.  (20)

Rd 11:    (sc in next 3 sc, sc2tog) around.  (16)

Rds 12-18:           sc in each sc around.  (16)

Finish off.  Stuff GIRAFFE NECK firmly.



HEAD:

Rd 1:      With green, 6 sc in magic ring.  (6)

Rd 2:      2 sc in each sc around.  (12)

Rd 3:      (sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) around.  (18)

Rd 4:      sc in each sc around.  (18)

Rd 5:      (sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around.  (24)

Rds 6-10:              sc in each sc around.  (24)

Rd 11:    (sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around.  (30)

Rds 12-13:           sc in each sc around.  (30)

Rd 14:    (sc in next 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around.  (36)

Rds 15-16:           sc in each sc around.  (36)

INSERT SAFETY EYES BETWEEN RD 10 AND 11 WITH 7 SC BETWEEN EACH EYE.

Rd 17:    (sc in next 2 sc, sc2tog) around.  (27)

Rd 18:    sc in each sc around.  (27)

Rd 19:    (sc in next sc, sc2tog) around.  (18)

Rd 20:    sc in each sc around.  (18)

STUFF HEAD FIRMLY.

Rd 21;    (sc in next sc, sc2tog) around.  (12)

Finish off leaving a long tail.  Weave tail through sc of Rd 21, pull tightly, and secure.  Using black, embroider mouth on HEAD.  Sew HEAD to NECK. Weave in ends. 



LEGS (MAKE 4):

Rd 1:      With green, 8 sc in magic ring.  (8)

Rd 2:      2 sc in each sc around.  (16)

Rd 3:      Working in back loops only, sc in each sc around.  (16)

Rds 4-22:              sc in each sc around.  (16)

Rd 23:    (sc in next 2 sc, sc2tog) around.  (12)

STUFF LEGS FIRMLY.

Rd 24:    sc2tog around.  (6)

Finish off leaving a long tail.  Weave tail through sc of Rd 24, pull tightly and secure.  Sew LEGS to BODY.  Weave in ends.



TOES (MAKE 12):

Rw 1:     With spring green, ch 5, hdc in second ch from hook, sc in next 2 ch, slip st in next ch.  (4)

Finish off leaving a long tail.  Sew SMALL TOES to LESG along straight edge going up from Rd 3.  Weave in ends.



SPOTS (MAKE 6):

Rd 1:      With light green, ch 2, 6 sc in second ch from hook working around ch.  (6)

Finish off leaving a long tail.  Sew SPOTS to BODY.  Weave in ends.
