I saw a wrist snake that my wife got when she went to the local zoo. I had an idea that I could make one of these but adding a jingle bell inside of the head so that it rattles. Here is the pattern for my wrist rattlesnake. I used pink and black for this little guy but it can be made with any two colors.
MATERIALS:
Worsted weight yarn: Red, pink and black.
E Crochet hook
Polyester fiberfill
Tapestry needle
2 ½ inch piece of Velcro
Small jingle bell
HEAD AND BOTTOM OF TAIL:
Rd 1: With pink, ch 4, 2 sc in second ch from hook, sc in next ch, 3 sc in next ch working around ch, working in free loops of foundation ch, sc in next 2 ch. (8)
Rd 2: 3 sc in next sc, sc in next 3 sc, 3 sc in next sc, sc in next 3 sc. (12)
Rd 3: (2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 3 sc) around. (16)
Rds 4-8: sc in each sc around. (16)
Rd 9: sc in next 3 sc, sc2tog, sc in next 6 sc, sc2tog, sc in next 3 sc. (14)
Rd 10: sc in next 3 sc, sc2tog, sc in next 5 sc, sc2tog, sc in next 2 sc. (12)
ADDING ANY STUFFING AND JINGLE BELL INTO HEAD
Rd 11: slip st in next 4 sc, flatten head, working through both thicknesses, sc in next 6 sc. (6)
NOW WORKING IN ROWS
Rws 12-49: Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc across. (6)
Finish off. Weave in ends.
TOP OF HEAD AND TAIL:
Rw 1: With black, ch 2, 2 sc in second ch from hook. (2)
Rw 2: Ch 1, turn; 2 sc in each sc across. (4)
Rw 3: Ch 1, turn; 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc. (6)
Rws 4-46: Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc across. (6)
Finish off leaving a long tail. Sew TOP OF HEAD AND TAIL to HEAD AND BOTTOM OF TAIL.
Sew Velcro to TAIL.
TONGUE:
Rw 1: With red, ch 3, sc in second ch from hook and in next ch. (2)
Rws 2-5: Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc across. (2)
Rw 6: Ch 1, turn; (sc, slip st) in next sc, (slip st, sc) in next sc.
Finish off. Weave in ends. Sew TONGUE to HEAD.
