DRAGON


This is a pattern for a dragon based on a picture provided by the person that requested this to be made.  This was not an easy character to create.  I do not know where the picture originates from.  If someone can tell me, please do and will get full credit to who owns the copyright.  This was a request by a fellow church member.

MATERIALS:
Worsted weight yarn:  white, royal blue, delft blue and gold.
F crochet hook
Felt:  royal blue, delft blue, and white.
Polyester Fiberfil
Tapestry needle
4 white chenille stems
Glue

BODY:
Rd 1: With white, 9 sc in magic ring.  (9)
Rd 2: sc in each sc around.  (18)
Rd 3: (sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) around.  (27)
Rd 4: sc in next 5 sc, 2 sc in next sc, (sc in next 6 sc, 2 sc in next sc) 3 times.  (31)

RIBBING ARMS ON WINGS (DO ON BOTH WINGS):
Starting at second point of WINGS, attach white, using pictures as guide, sc over sc of WINGS and chenille stem turning at edge and using picture as guide for second RIBBING ARM to next side point.

WINGS EDGING (DO ON BOTH WINGS):
Starting at top point, attach white, sc along straight edge over a chenille stem with a sc over turing point of RIBBING ARMS.

Feed exposed end of chenille of WINGS into BODY having the end come back p where the NECK will be to hide the securement.  Sew WINGS to BODY.  When finished, WINGS should be standing straight up.  Cut pieces of royal blue felt to match spaces created by RIBBING ARMS and EDGING.  Glue in place.

NECK:
Rd 1: With white, 8 sc in magic ring.  (8)
Rd 2: 2 sc in each sc around.  (16)
Rds 3-7: sc in each sc around.  (16)
Rd 8: sc in next 7 sc, 2 sc in next 2 sc, sc in next 7 sc.  (18)
Rd 9: sc2tog, sc in next 14 sc, sc2tog.  (16)
Rd 10: sc in next 6 sc, 2 sc in next 4 sc, sc in next 6 sc.  (20)
Rd 11: sc2tog, sc in next 16 sc, sc2tog.  (18)
Rd 12: sc in next 8 sc, 2 dc in next 2 sc, sc in next 8 sc.  (20)

Rw 5: Ch 1, turn; sc2tog.  (1)
Finish off.  Cut royal blue felt in shape of ear just a bit smaller.  Glue in place.  Fold bottom corners of EARS in and sew to HEAD.


EYEBROWS (DO ON BOTH SIDES OF HEAD):
Starting at first sc of Row 10 of HEAD working over sc, do 5 sc curving to end between Row 8 and 9 of HEAD.  Reverse for other EYEBROW.

HORNS (MAKE 2):
Rd 1: With royal blue, 4 sc in magic ring.  (4)
Rds 2-3: sc in each sc around.  (4)
Rd 4: sc in next sc, 2 sc in next 2 sc, sc in next sc.  (6)
Rd 5: sc2tog, 2 sc in next 2 sc, sc2tog.  (6)
Rds 6-8: sc in each sc around.  (6)
Finish off leaving a long tail.  Stuff firmly.  Sew to HEAD right behind each EYEBROW.

HORN RING:
With gold, ch 8, join with slip st in first ch.  Finish off.  Slip over left HORN and secure.
EYES:
Cut eyes out of delft blue and royal blue.  Glue together and to HEAD.  

SPINE SPIKES:
Cut SPINE SPIKES out of royal blue.  Glue one SPIKE every 3 rows starting at center of HEAD and working down SPINE to tail.

MOUTH AND NOSTALS:
Embroider mouth and nostals on HEAD using black.
