Scripture Case

SCRIPTURES CASE

This pattern is for a scriptures carrying case that will fit the standard LDS (Latter-day Saints) Quad set or a KJV Bible and Triple combination (Book of Mormon, Doctrine & Covenants, and Pearl of Great Price).  I made mine using a country blue yarn.  You can make it out any color you want.

MATERIALS

Worsted Weight yarn

H crochet hook

Tapestry needle

Sewing needle

Zipper

Sewing thread that matches the yarn color

TOP/BOTTOM (MAKE 2)

Rw 1:   Ch 30, sc in second ch from hook and in each ch across.  (28)

Rws 2-27:        Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc across.  (28)

Finish off.

SIDES (FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS FOR BOTH TOP/BOTTOM)

Rw 1:   Working in sides of rows of TOP/BOTTOM, join yarn with slip st in side of foundation ch, ch 1, sc in the end of each row, sc in each sc of Row 27 across, sc down other side of TOP/BOTTOM.  (84)

Rw 2:   Ch 1, turn; sc in next 27 sc, sc2tog, sc in next 26 sc, sc2tog, sc in next 27 sc.  (82)

Finish off.

SPINE

Rw 1:   Working in free loops of foundation ch of TOP, join yarn with slip st, ch 1, sc in same ch as slip st and in each ch across.  (28)

Rws 2-15:        Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc across.  (28)

Rw 16: Holding right sides of SPINE and BOTTOM together and working through both thicknesses, ch 1, turn; sc in each sc across.  (28)

Finish off.

Sew SIDES to SPINE.

HANDLE

Rw 1:   Ch 8, sc in second ch from hook and in each ch across.  (6)

Rws 2-218:      Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc across.  (6)

Finish off.  Sew HANDLE to case starting at upper center of SPINE working up TOP leaving 40 rows for HANDLE then back down TOP, across SPINE, up BOTTOM, leave 40 Rows for second HANDLE, then back down BOTTOM lining the end with beginning on SPINE.

ZIPPER

Sew zipper along opening.  The length of the zipper will depend on how much you want the case to open.  If you want it to lay flat, zipper will need to run entire distance of opening.
