USA SIGN

This is the first collaboration between my crochet talent and my wife’s painting talent. She painted the stars. I crocheted the base and ribbons.

MATERIALS:
Worsted weight yarn: White, red, and royal.
I crochet hook
Tapestry needle
3 wooden stars
Red, white, and blue acrylic paint
Paintbrush
Letter stencil
Wooden dowel
Fishing line
Glue

BASE AND RIBBONS:
Rw 1: Working over dowel, attach white with slip st, ch 1, sc evenly across leaving about an inch of dowel exposed on each end. I did 58 sc.
Rw 2: turn; ch 23, skip next 19 sc, slip st in next sc, ch 23, skip next 18 sc, slip st in next sc, ch 23, skip next 18 sc, slip st in next sc.
Rw 3: Ch 1, turn; (skip slip st, sc in next 23 ch) 3 times. (69) Change to red.
Rw 4: Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc across. (69) Change to royal.
Rw 5: Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc across. (69)
Finish off. Weave in ends.

HANGER:
Holding a strand of red, white, and royal together, ch 50.
Finish off. Tie each end of HANGER to dowel. I suggest putting some glue to secure it.

STARS:
Paint 1 star in each color of red, white, and blue. Paint on letters using stencil. Attach stars to BASE AND RIBBONS using fishing line. OPTIONAL: put a little amount of glue to make sure fishing live does not come undone.
