MITTENS

This is an adaptation of my Fingerless gloves pattern to turn them into mittens.  They can be made in any color.  I just used a color that I had an abundance of.

MATERIALS:
Worsted weight yarn
H crochet hook
Tapestry needle

GLOVES (MAKE 2):
CUFF:
Rw 1: Ch 9, sc in second ch from hook and in each ch across.  (8)
Rws 2-30: Ch 1, turn; working in back loops only, sc in each sc across.  (8)
Rw 31: Ch 1, turn; aligning sts of Row 1 and 30 and working through both thicknesses, sc in each st across to seam CUFF.  (8)  Do not fasten off

HAND:
WORK NOW PROGRESSES IN JOINED ROUNDS TO THUMB OPENING.
Rd 32: Ch 1, rotate piece to work along row ends of CUFF, sc in each row, join with slip st in first sc.  (31)
Rds 33-36: Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc around, join.  (31)
WORK NOW PROGRESSES IN TURNED ROWS TO CREATE THUMB OPENING.
Rd 37: Ch 1, turn; sc in next 30 sc, leaving last st unworked.  (30)
Rds 38-45: Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc across.  (30)
WORK NOW PROGRESSES IN JOINED ROUNDS TO TOP OF HAND.
Rd 46: Ch 1, turn; sc in next 30 sc, ch 2, slip st in first sc.  (32)
Rd 47: Ch 1, turn; sc in next 2 ch, sc in next 30 sc, join.  (32)
Rds 48-66: Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc across, join.  (32)
Rd 67: Ch 1, turn; (sc in next 2 sc, sc2tog) around, join.  (24)
Rd 68: Ch 1, turn; (sc in next sc, sc2tog) around, join.  (16)
Rd 69: Ch 1, turn; sc2tog around, join.  (8)
Finish off leaving a long tail.  Weave tail through sc of Rd 69, pull tightly and secure.  Weave in ends.

EDGING:
Rd 1: With RS facing, join yarn with sc in any row end of CUFF, sc in each remaining row end around CUFF, join with slip st in first sc.

THUMB:
Rd 1: With RS facing, join yarn, with sc in unworked sc of Rd 37 of Hand, working in row ends, work 21 sc evenly spaced around THUMB opening, join.  (22)
Rd 2: Ch 2, turn; dc in next sc, dc in next 2 sc, hdc in next 2 sc, sc in next 2 sc, slip st in next 8 sc, sc in next 2 sc, hdc in next 2 sc, dc in next 3 sc, join with slip st in first dc.  (22)
Rd 3: Ch 1, turn; sc in next 8 sts, slip st in next 7 sts, sc in next 7 sts, join with slip st in first sc.  (22)
Rd 4: Ch 1, turn; sc2tog, sc in next 18 sts, sc2tog, slip st in first sc.  (20)
Rds 5-11: Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc around, slip st in first sc.  (20)
Rd 12: Ch 1, turn; (sc in next 8 sc, sc2tog) around, slip st in first sc.   (18)
Rd 13: Ch 1, turn; (sc in next 4 sc, sc2tog) around, slip st in first sc.   (15)
Rd 14: Ch 1, turn; (sc in next 3 sc, sc2tog) around, slip st in first sc.   (12)
Rd 15: Ch 1, sc2tog around, slip st in first sc.  (6)
Finish off leaving a long tail.  Weave tail through sc of Rd 15, pull tightly and secure.  Weave in ends.
