NIKE BABY SNEAKERS

These are my version a pair of NIKE sneaker designed to fit most newborns.  I was requested by a co-worker to make these because she saw a picture of a pair on the Internet.  I am not sure where she found them but here is the pattern that I came up with.  The sneakers can be made in any combination of colors.  I used orchid and white because that what my co-worker requested.

MATERIALS
Worsted weight yarn: Orchid and white
H and D crochet hook.
Tapestry needle

SOLE:
Rd 1: With white, ch 10, 2 sc in second ch from hook, sc in next 5 ch, hdc in next ch, 2 hdc in next ch, (2hdc, 2 dc, 2hdc) in next ch working around ch, working in free loops of foundation ch, 2 hdc in next ch, hdc in next ch, sc in next 5 ch, 2 sc in next ch.  (26)
Rd 2: 2 sc in next 3 sts, sc in next 7 sts, 2 sc in next 2 sts, 3 sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next 2 sts, sc in next 7 sts, 2 sc in next 3 sts.  (40)
Rd 3: sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc2tog, sc in next sc, sc2tog, sc in next 2 sc, sc2tog, sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next 2 sc, sc in next 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 3 sc, sc2tog, sc in next 2 sc, sc2tog, sc in next sc, sc2tog, 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 3 sc, slip st in first sc.  (40)
Rd 4: Working in front loops only, ch 1, sc in each sc around, slip st in first sc.  (40)
Rd 5: Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc around, slip st in first sc.  (40)
Finish off.  Weave in ends.

TOE AND TONGUE:
Rw 1:   Working in front loops only, skip next 12 sc, attach orchid in next sc, slip st in next 15 sc.
Rw 2: Ch1, turn; working over slip st in Rw 1 and in same loops, sc in next 16 sc.  (16)
Rw 3: Ch 1, turn; (sc in next 2 sc, sc2tog) 4 times.  (12)
Rw 4: Ch 1, turn; sc2tog, (sc in next 3 sc, sc2tog) twice.  (9)
Rw 5: Ch 1, turn; sc in next 2 sc, sc2tog, sc in next sc, sc2tog, sc in next 2 sc.  (7)
Rw 6: Ch 1, turn; sc in next sc, (sc2tog, sc in next sc) twice.  (5)
Rw 7-11: Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc across.  (5)
Finish off.  Weave in ends.

BODY:
Rw 1: Working in front loops only, attach orchid in same sc as last sc of TOE AND TONGUE, slip st in next 25 sc.
Rw 2: Ch 1, turn; working over slip st in Rw 1 and in same loops, sc in next 26 sc.  (26)
Rw 3: Ch 1, turn; sc2tog, (sc in next 6 sc, sc2tog) 3 times.  (22)
Rw 4: Ch 1, turn; (sc2tog) twice, sc in next 4 sc, sc2tog, sc in next 2 sc, sc2tog, sc in next 4 sc, (sc2tog) twice.  (16)
Rw 5: Ch 1, turn; (sc2tog) twice, sc in next 3 sc, sc2tog, sc in next 3 sc, (sc2tog) twice.  (11)
Finish off.  Weave in ends.  Sew each end of Rws 2-3 of BODY to Rws 2-3 to TOE AND TONGUE.

LACES:
With white, ch 40.  Weave LACES to Rws 3-5 of BODY.  Tie ends together.

SWOOSH APPLIQUE (MAKE 4):
Rw 1: With white and D hook, ch 10, sc in second ch from hook, sc in next 5 ch, hdc in next ch, 2 hdc in next ch, 5 hdc in next ch.
Finish off leaving a long tail.  Sew SWOOSH APPLIQUES to BABY SNEAKERS.
