ONIX

This is the next request by my Etsy customer.  Onix is the basic evolution of Steelix.  I made Steelix back in November.  Onix will complete another evolution set (if you do not count Mega evlutions).  Onix was pretty easy pattern to design.  This pattern includes the color lists for both Onix and Shiny Onix.

MATERIALS:
Worsted Weight Yarn (Shiny color substitute in parenthesis):  Greybeard (leaf green), white, and black.
F crochet hook
Polyester fiberfill
Yarn Needle

TOP OF HEAD:
Rd 1: With greybeard, ch 10, sc in second ch from hook, sc in next 7 ch, 2 sc in end ch, sc in each of the reverse side of the next 8 ch.  (18)
Rd 2: Ch 1, turn; sc in next 8 sc, 3 sc in next 2 sc, sc in next 8 sc.  (22)
Rds 3-4: Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc around.  (22)
Rd 5: Ch 1, turn; sc in next 9 sc, 3 sc in next sc, sc in next 2 sc, 3 sc in next sc, sc in next 9 sc.  (26)
Rd 6: Ch 1, turn; sc in next 9 sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 9 sc.  (30)
Rds 7-8: Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc around.  (30)
Rd 9: Ch 1, turn; working in front loops only, sc in next 6 sc, change to black, sc in next 2 sc, working in both loop, sc in next 14 sc, working in front loops only, sc in next 2 sc, changing to greybeard, sc in next 6 sc.  (30)
Finish off.

BOTTOM OF HEAD:
Rd 1: With greybeard, ch 10, sc in second ch from hook, sc in next 7 ch, 2 sc in end ch, sc in each of the reverse side of the next 8 ch.  (18)
Rd 2: Ch 1, turn; sc in next 8 sc, 3 sc in next 2 sc, sc in next 8 sc.  (22)
Rd 3: Ch 1, turn; sc in next 9 sc, 3 sc in next sc, sc in next 2 sc, 3 sc in next sc, sc in next 9 sc.  (26)
Rd 4: Ch 1, turn; sc in next 9 sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 9 sc.  (30)
Rd 5: Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc around.  (30)
Finish off.  Sew TOP OF HEAD and BOTTOM OF HEAD together.

BACK OF HEAD:
Rd 1: sc in foundation ch of BOTTOM OF HEAD, sc in next 2 sc, sc2tog, (sc in next 3 sc, sc2tog) 5 times.  (24)
Rd 2: (sc in next 2 sc, sc2tog) around.  (18)
STUFF HEAD FIRMLY.
Rd 3: (sc in next sc, sc2tog) around.  (12)
Rd 4: sc2tog around.  (6)
Finish off leaving a long tail.  Weave tail through sc of Rd 4, pull tightly, and secure.

CHEEKS (MAKE 2):
Rw 1: Working in free loops of Rd 8 of TOP OF HEAD and starting at BACK OF HEAD, attach greybeard, ch 1, sc in next 6 sc, sc2tog.  (7)
Rw 2: Ch 1, turn; sc2tog, sc in next 5 sc.  (6)
Rw 3: Ch 1, turn; sc in next 4 sc, sc2tog.  (5)
Finish off leaving a long tail.  Sew CHEEKS to HEAD.  Weave in ends.

EYES:
Embroider EYES on HEAD of ONIX.

HORN (MAKE 2):
Rw 1: With greybeard, ch 3, sc in second ch from hook and in next ch.  (2)
Rw 2: Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc across.  (2)
Rw 3: Ch 1, turn; 2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc.  (3)
Rws 4-5: Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc across.  (3)
Rw 6: Ch 1, turn; sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc.  (4)
Rws 7-8: Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc across.  (4)
Finish off leaving a long tail.  Sew HORNS together.  Sew HORN to HEAD.

TAIL ROCK #1:
Rd 1: With greybeard, 6 sc in magic ring.  (6)
Rd 2: 2 sc in each sc around.  (12)
Rd 3: (sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) around.  (18)

  1. Hi! My son is dying for me to crochet this for him. I've made Pikachu and Bulbasaur as well. But I am a little confused on the first row - how do you reverse crochet and get the 18 stitches? I am self taught so any help would be awesome!

  2. How do you do the eyes? It doesn't list how many rounds to do and how to put the black in the middle. Making one for my son and was confused.
