DARTH VADER


I was asked to make a doll of a Darth Vader.  With the popularity of Star Wars because of the new movie released in December.  Here is the pattern for my Darth Vader.  The lightsaber that is pictured is not the one that is in the instructions.  I changed the pattern for during the second time making Darth Vader.  I loved how the Darth Vader turned out so good, I did not want to wait to get it posted.

MATERIALS:
Sport weight yarn:  Black and gray.
Worsted weight yarn:  Black, red, and gray.
Size 10 crochet cotton:  Silver
E, B, and 6 crochet hook
Polyester fiberfill
Tapestry needle
1 set of 10 mm safety eyes
Black craft felt
Blue, red, white, and silver embroidery floss
Embroidery needle
Black poly-satin fabric
Straight pins
Black sewing thread
Sewing needle
8-inch piece of ¼ inch diameter dowel
Craft glue

ARMS (MAKE 2):
Rd 1: With black sport weight yarn and E hook, 6 sc in magic ring.  (6)
Rd 2: (sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) around.  (9)
Rds 3-12: sc in each sc around.  (9)
Rd 13: (sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around.  (12)
Rds 14-23: sc in each sc around.  (12)
Finish off leaving a long tail to sew ARMS to BODY.  Stuff ARMS firmly.  Set aside for now.

FIRST LEG:
Rd 1: With black sport weight yarn and E hook, 6 sc in magic ring.  (6)
Rd 2: 2 sc in each sc around.  (12)
Rds 3-12: sc in each sc around.  (12)
Rd 13: (sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around.  (15)
Rds 14-23: sc in each sc around.  (15)
Rd 24: (sc in next 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around.  (18)
Rds 25-34: sc in each sc around.  (18)
Finish off.  Stuff FIRST LEG firmly.  Set aside.

SECOND LEG AND BODY:

Rw 3: Ch 1, turn; sc in each dc across.  (14)  Change to gray sport weight yarn.
Rws 4-5: Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc across.  (14)  Change to black sport weight yarn.
Rws 6-7: Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc across.  (14)  Change to gray sport weight yarn.
Rws 8-9: Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc across.  (14)  Change to black sport weight yarn.
Rw 10: Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc across.  (14)
Rw 11: Ch 1, turn; sc in next 5 sc.  (5)  Change to gray sport weight yarn.
Rws 12-13: Ch 1, turn; sc in next 5 sc.  (5)  Change to black sport weight yarn.

Finish off leaving a long tail.  Sew back seam together. Do not sew front together yet.  Sc around edge of the SHOULDER ARMOR leaving the front seam open.  CAPE:  With black poly-satin fabric, create a 9-inch square with seamed edges.  Sew CAPE to back of SHOULDER ARMOR.  Slip SHOULDER ARM over head of DARTH VADER.  Secure the armor on the shoulders of DARTH VADER with some invisible stitches.

HELMET:
Rd 1: With black sport weight yarn and E hook, 6 sc in magic ring.  (6)

Rd 3: (sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) around.  (18)
Rd 4: (sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around.  (24)

Finish off leaving a long tail.  Using tapestry needle, weave tail through stitches up to Rd 10.  Sew HELMET to head of BODY.

FACE MASK:
Using black craft felt, cut FACE MASK.  Embroider the “mouth” with gray embroidery floss.  Glue FACE MASK to head of BODY just under eyes.

BOOTS (MAKE 2):
Rd 1: With black sport weight yarn and E hook, ch 10, dc in third ch from hook, dc in next 6 ch, 3 dc in next ch working around ch, working in free loops of foundation ch, dc in next 6 ch, 3 dc in next ch, slip st in first dc.  (19)
Rd 2: Working in back loops only, ch 1, sc in each dc around, join with slip st in first sc.  (19)
Rd 3: Ch 1, sc in each sc around, join.  (19)
Rd 4: Ch 1, sc in next 5 sc, hdc in next 2 sc, dc3tog, hdc in next 2 sc, sc in next 7 sc, join.  (17)
Rd 5: Ch 1, sc in next 6 sc, sc3tog, sc in next 8 sc, join.  (15)
Rds 6-13: Ch 1, sc in each sc around, join.  (15)

GLOVES (MAKE 2):

BELT BUCKLE:
Rd 1: With silver crochet cotton and 6 hook, 6 sc in magic ring.  (6)
Rd 2: 2 sc in each sc around.  (12)
Rd 3: slip in next sc, ch 1, sc in same sc as slip st, sc in next 2 sc.  (3)
Finish off.  Weave in ends.

BELT:
Cut a strip of black craft belt.  Glue BELT BUCKLE to end of felt BELT.  Wrap BELT around over top edge of PANTS.  Glue in place.

CHEST BUTTONS PANEL:
Cut a square of black felt.  Embroider the push buttons on felt square.  Glue CHEST BUTTONS PANEL in the center of the chest.

aaLIGHTSABER:
Rd 1: With gray worsted weight yarn and B hook, 7 sc in magic ring.  (7)
Rds 2-3: sc in each sc around.  (7)
Rd 4: sc in next sc, sc2tog, sc in next sc, sc2tog, sc in next sc.  (5)  Change to black worsted weight yarn.
Rds 5-6: sc in each sc around.  (5)  Change to red worsted weight yarn.
Rd 7: holding black yarn outside of LIGHTSABER, sc in each sc around.  (5)
Rds 8-30: sc in each sc around.  (5)
Finish off leaving a long tail.  Insert dowel into LIGHTSABER.  Sew opening closed.

LIGHTSABER HANDLE:
Using black left outside of LIGHTSABER and B hook, slip st in side of Rd 6 of LIGHTSABER, ch 7, slip st in side of Rd 1 of LIGHTSABER.  Finish off.  Weave in ends.
