BLAZE BALL

This is my Pokemon-obsessed customer’s own design for his Blaze Ball.  This is next in a series of custom Pokeballs for this customer.  This is the pattern that I came up with to make it come to reality.

MATERIALS:
Worst weight yarn:  Black, red, and yellow
F crochet hook
Tennis ball or Polyester Fiberfil
Tapestry needle

BALL:
Rd 1:      With black, 6 sc in magic ring, slip st in first sc.  (6)
Rd 2:      Ch 1, turn; 2 sc in each sc around, slip st in first sc.  (12)
Rd 3:      Ch 1, turn; (sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) around, slip st in first sc.  (18)
Rd 4:      Ch 1, turn; (sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around, slip st in first sc.  (24)
Rd 5:      Ch 1, turn; (sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around, slip st in first sc.  (30)
Rd 6:      Ch 1, turn; (sc in next 4 sc, 2 sc in each sc) around, slip st in first sc.  (36)
Rd 7:      Ch 1, turn; (sc in next 5 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around, slip st in first sc.  (42)
Rd 8:      Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc around, slip st in first sc changing to yellow.  (42)
Rd 9:      Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc around, slip st in first sc.  (42)
Rd 10:    Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc around, slip st in first sc changing to black.  (42) 
Rds 11-12:           Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc around, slip st in first sc.  (42)
Rd 13:    Ch 1, turn; (sc in next 5 sc, sc2tog) around, slip st in first sc.  (36)
Rd 14:    Ch 1, turn; (sc in next 4 sc, sc2tog) around, slip st in first sc.  (30)
IF INSERTING TENNIS BALL, WHILE HOLDING IN PLACE, CONTINUE TO CROCHET AROUND IT.  YOU MAY NEED TO PULL YOUR FINISHED WORK TIGHTLY TO GET IT TO COVER TO COMPLETELY.
Rd 15:    Ch 1, turn; (sc in next 3 sc, sc2tog) around, slip st in first sc.  (24)
Rd 16:    Ch 1, turn; (sc in next 2 sc, sc2tog) around, slip st in first sc.  (18)
IF YOU ARE STUFFING THE GREAT BALL, THIS WOULD BE WHEN YOU WILL BE ADDING TO THE STUFFING.  CONTINUE STUFFING TO ACHIEVE DESIRED FIRMNESS.
Rd 17:    Ch 1, turn; (sc in next sc, sc2tog) around, slip st in first sc.  (12)
Rd 18:    Ch 1, turn; sc2tog around, slip st in first sc.  (6)
Finish off leaving a long tail.  Weave tail through sc of Rd 18, pull tightly, and secure.  Weave in ends.

BUTTON:
Rd 1:      With yellow, ch 2, 4 sc in second ch from hook working around ch, slip st in first sc changing to black.  (4)
Rd 2:      Ch 1, 2 sc in each sc around, slip st in first sc.  (8)
Finish off leaving a long tail.  Sew BUTTON to BLAZE BALL over Rds 9 and 10.  Weave in ends.  Using black, embroider spot in center of BUTTON.

CENTER WRAP:
Rd 1:      With red, ch 27, 2 sc in second ch from hook, sc in next 24 ch, 4 sc in second ch from hook working around ch, working in free loops of foundation ch, sc in next 24 ch, 2 sc in next ch.  (56)
Rd 2:      2 sc in next 2 sc, sc in next 24 sc, 2 sc in next 4 sc, sc in next 24 sc, 2 sc in next sc.  (64)
Rd 3:      (sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) twice, sc in next 24 sc, (sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) 4 times, sc in next 24 sc, (sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) twice.  (72)
Finish off leaving a long tail.  Sew CENTER WRAP around

BOTTOM PLATE:
Rw 1:     With red, ch 3, sc in second ch from hook, sc in next ch.  (2)
Rw 2:     Ch 1, turn; 2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc.  (3)
Rw 3:     Ch 1, turn; 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 2 sc.  (4)
Rws 4-7:               Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc across.  (4)
Rw 8:     Ch 1, turn; sc2tog, sc2tog.  (2)
Finish off leaving a long tail.  Sew BOTTOM PLATE to BALL.  Weave in ends.

FLAME:
Rd 1:      With red, ch 2, 4 sc in second ch from hook working around ch, slip st in first sc.  (4)
Rd 2:      Ch 1, 2 sc in each sc around, slip st in first sc.  (8)
Rd 3:      Ch 1, skip next sc, sc in next sc, (hdc, ch 2, slip st) in next sc, slip st in next sc, ch 4, sc in second ch from hook, sc in next ch, hdc in next ch, (slip st, ch 2, hdc) in next sc, (sc, slip st) in next sc, leaving remaining sc unworked. 
Finish off leaving a long tail.  Using black, embroider center marking on FLAME.  Sew FLAME to BALL just above BUTTON.  Weave in ends.

DIAMONDS:
Using red, embroider a small DIAMOND on each side of FLAME.
