This a chess that was inspired by the Minions from Despicable Me 2. It also gave my wife a reason to learn how to play chess. This pattern is a little complicated because if you not know how to read a graph to make a crocheted item this is not a pattern for you. I will try to make it as easy as I can.
MATERIALS:
Worsted weight yarn: bright yellow, delft blue, red, lavender, navy blue, white, black, gray, buff, burgundy, and gold.
B nd G crochet hook
Polyester fiberfill
Tapestry needle
Craft foam – Purple, yellow, black, and white
Glue gun
32 1” diameter cardboard circles
Silver paint
Paintbrush
BOTTOM OF EACH PIECE:
Color will depend on which piece that you are making.
Rd 1: 8 sc in magic ring. (8)
Rd 2: 2 sc in each sc around. (16)
Rd 3: (sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) around. (24)
Rd 4: (sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around. (32)

ARM:
Rw 1: With black, ch 3, sc in second ch from hook, sc in next ch. (2)
Rw 2: Ch 1, turn; 2 sc in each sc across. (4)
Rw 3: Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc across. (4) Finish off. Weave in ends.
Rw 4: Attach yellow in second sc of Rw 3, ch 1, sc in same sc as joining, sc in next sc. (2)
Rws 5-7: Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc across. (2)
Finish off leaving a long tail to sew ARM to SIDE.
YELLOW MINION ROOKS (MAKE 2):
Use YELLOW MINION PAWN #3 AND #4 for YELLOW MINION ROOKS.

Rd 1: With gray, ch 33, sc in second ch from hook and each ch across, join with slip st in first sc. (32)

Finish off leaving a long tail to sew HELMET to MINION.
MASK (MAKE 2):
Rd 1: With gray, ch 19, sc in second ch from hook, sc in next 2 ch, hdcin next 4 ch, (ch 1, dc in next ch) 4 times, ch 1, hdc in next 4 ch, sc in next 2 ch, 3 sc in next ch working around, working in free loops of foundation ch, sc in next 2 ch, hdc in next 4 ch, (ch 1, dc in next ch) 4 times, ch 1, hdc in next 4 ch, sc in next ch, 2 sc in next ch.
Finish off with a long tail to sew MASK to HELMET.
SHIELD (MAKE 2)
Follow graph to make starting at top. Glue to right hand.
SWORD (MAKE 2):
Cut out white craft foam. Paint blades silver. Glue to left hand.
TASSLE:
Fringe 3 8” pieces of yellow yarn at point of HELMET.
YELLOW MINION BISHOPS (MAKE 2):
Use YELLOW MINION PAWN #1 AND #2 for YELLOW MINION BISHOPS without left arm. Make 2 ARMS.

Rd 1: With white, ch 17, sc in second ch from hook and in each ch acoss, join with slip st in first sc. (16)

Use the following graph to make YELLOW MINION GRAPH. Green stitches on graph are yellow stitches.
GOLD TRIMON OVERALLS:
Following top edge of OVERALLS highlighted in green on graph, sc over sc along edge around YELLOW MINION QUEEN. I did this before stuffing and closing up the YELLOW MINION QUEEN.
HAIR:
Fringe 2 12” pieces of buff over 18 stitches of Rd 1 of decreasing Rounds.
CROWN:
Rd 1: With gold, ch 31, sc in second ch from hook and in each ch across, join with slip st in first sc. (30)
Rd 2: Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc around. (30)
Rd 3: Ch 1, turn; [sc in next sc, hdc in next sc, (dc, tr) in next sc, ch 3, slip st in top of tr, (tr, dc) in next sc, hdc in next sc] around, join.
Finish off leaving a long tail to sew CROWN to head over HAIR.
YELLOW MINION KING:
Us the following chart for making YELLOW MINION KING. Green stitches represent yellow stitches.
WHITE TRIM OF COAT:
Starting at center front and working around right side of YELLOW MINION KING and along back and left side, then down front of coat using green stitches on graph as a guide. I did this before stuffing and finishing off YELLOW MINION KING.
SCEPTOR:
Make SCEPTOR out of yellow craft foam. Design in up to the person making it. Glue to right hand.
CROWN:
Rd 1: With red, ch 29, sc in second ch from hook and in each ch across, join with slip st in first sc. (28)

Rd 2: Beginning at any stitch, attach navy blue, ch 3, dc evenly around outer edge of BOARD with 3 dc in each corner, join with slip st at top ch-3 and finish off. Weave in end.

mine keeps coming out way to big! i use a g hook and worsted wieght yarn but they are huge! any suggestions?
