WATERMELON KITTY

This was a request from a friend. Watermelon Kitty was based on a picture she had sent to me that she had found on Etsy. She asked if I could make one similar. Of course, I said yes. She picked the color of the eyes.

MATERIALS:
Worsted weight yarn: shocking pink, emerald, light green, and black.
E crochet hook
Polyester fiberfill
Tapestry needle
12mm safety eyes

LEGS (MAKE 4-2 IN SHOCKING PINK, 2 IN EMERALD):
Rd 1: With shocking pink or emerald, 6 sc in magic ring. (6)
Rds 2-3: sc in each sc around. (6)
Finish off. Weave in ends. Stuff LEGS firmly.

TAIL:
Rd 1: With red, 6 sc in magic ring. (6)
Rds 2-6: sc in each sc around. (6)
Finish off. Weave in ends.

BODY:
Rd 1: With shocking pink, 8 sc in magic ring. (8)
Rd 2: 2 sc in each sc around. (16)
Rd 3: (sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) around. (24)
Rd 4: (sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around. (32)
Rd 5: (sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around. (40)
Rd 6: (sc in next 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around. (48)
Rd 7: sc in next 43 sc, holding next sc on BODY and first sc on shocking pink LEG together and working through both thicknesses, sc in next 2 sc, sc in next 3 sc on BODY.
Rd 8: sc in next 3 sc, holding next sc on BODY and first sc on shocking pink LEG together and working through both thicknesses, sc in next 2 sc, sc in next 37 sc on BODY, sc together next sc on BODY and next unworked sc on LEG, working in sc behind same LEG, sc in next sc, ch 1, sc in next sc, skip next 2 sc on same LEG, sc together next sc on LEG and next sc on BODY, sc in next 2 sc.
Rd 9: sc in next 2 sc, sc together next sc on BODY and next unworked sc on LEG, working in sc behind same LEG, sc in next sc, ch 1, sc in next sc, skip next 2 sc on same LEG, sc together next sc on LEG and next sc on BODY, sc in next 37 sc, sc in next 2 sc on LEG, sc in next 3 sc on BODY.

Rds 11-16: sc in each sc around. (48) Change to light green after Rd 16.
INSERT SAFETY EYES BETWEEN RDS 3 AND 4.
Rd 17: sc in each sc around. (48) Change to emerald.
Rd 19: sc in each sc around. (48)
Rd 20: holding next sc on BODY and first sc on emerald LEG together and working through both thicknesses, sc in next sc, sc in next 6 sc on BODY, holding next sc on BODY and first sc on emerald LEG together and working through both thicknesses, sc in next 2 sc, sc in next 38 sc, holding next sc on BODY and sc #6 on emerald LEG together and working through both thicknesses, sc in next sc.
Rd 21: working in sc behind same LEG, sc in next sc, skip next 3 sc on same LEG, sc together next sc on LEG and next sc on BODY, sc in next 4 sc, sc together next sc on BODY and next unworked sc on LEG, working in sc behind same LEG, sc in next sc, ch 1, sc in next sc, skip next 2 sc on same LEG, sc together next sc on LEG and next sc on BODY, sc in next 36 sc, sc together next sc on BODY and next skipped sc on LEG, working in sc behind same LEG, sc in next sc, ch 1, slip st in first sc.
Rd 22: Ch 1, sc in next sc on LEG, sc in next 6 sc on BODY, sc in next 2 sc on LEG, sc in next 17 sc, holding next sc on BODY and flattened sc of Rd 6 of TAIL together and working through all thicknesses, sc in next 3 sc, sc in next 18 sc, sc in next sc on LEG. (48)
Rd 23: (sc in next 4 sc, sc2tog) around. (40)
Rd 24: (sc in next 3 sc, sc2tog) around. (32)
Rd 25: (sc in next 2 sc, sc2tog) around. (24)
Rd 26: (sc in next 2 sc, sc2tog) around. (18)
Rd 27: (sc in next sc, sc2tog) around. (12)
STUFF BODY FIRMLY.
Rd 28: sc2tog around. (6)
Finish off leaving a long tail. Weave tail through sc of Rd 28, pull tightly and secure. Weave in ends.

WHISKERS:
Fringe on a piece of emerald yarn on each side of BODY.

NOSE AND SEEDS:
Using black, embroider NOSE and randomly place SEEDS on BODY.

EARS (COMPLETE TWICE ON RD 7 OF BOTH):
Rw 1: Working over sc of Rd 7, attach shocking pink, skip next sc, (2 hdc, dc, 2 hdc) in next sc, skip next sc, slip st in next sc.
Finish off. Weave in ends. Skip next 3 sc and repeat for second EAR.
