STEGOSAURUS PURSE

My wife saw a leather Stegosaurus purse on Instagram. She asked if I could crochet one similar for her. Of course, my answer was yes. Here is the pattern that I came up with for it. The Stegosaurus Purse can be made in any combination of colors. My wife’s favorite color is purple.

MATERIALS
Worsted weight yarn: BC (lilac) and DC (lavender)
H hook
Tapestry needle
Safety eyes
22-inch zipper
Sewing needle
Sewing thread to match bag color
¼ yard of fabric matching bag color.

BODY SIDES (MAKE 2):
Rw 1: With BC, ch 26, sc in second ch from hook and in each ch across. (25)
Rw 2: Ch 1, turn; 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 23 sc, 2 sc in next sc. (27)
Rw 3: Ch 1, turn; 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 25 sc, 2 sc in next sc. (29)
Rw 4: Ch 1, turn; 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 27 sc, 2 sc in next sc. (31)
Rw 5: Ch 1, turn; 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 29 sc, 2 sc in next sc. (33)
Rws 6-20: Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc across. (33)
Rw 21: Ch 1, turn; sc in next 5 sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 21 sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 5 sc. (35)

BODY FRONT/TOP/BACK (COMPLETE ON BOTH BODY SIDES):
Rw 1: Attach BC in the side of Rw 24 of BODY SIDE, ch 1, sc in same Rw as attachment, sc in next 23 Rws, working in free loops of foundation ch, sc in next 25 ch, working in the side of Rws, sc in next 24 Rws. (73)
Rws 2-7: Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc across. (73)
Finish off leaving a long tail.

BOTTOM:
Rw 1: With BC, ch 34, sc in second ch from hook and in each ch across. (33)
Rws 2-14: Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc across. (33)
Finish off leaving a long tail.

BODY SPOTS (MAKE 6):
Rd 1: With DC, 6 sc in magic ring. (6)
Rd 2: 2 sc in each sc around. (12)
Finish off leaving a long tail. Sew 3 BODY SPOTS to each BODY SIDE. Weave in ends.

ASSEMBLY:
Sew BODY SIDES, BODY FRONT, BODY BACK and BOTTOM TOGETHER. Sew first 20 sc of BODY FRONT and BODY BACK together. Weave in ends.

LINING:
Cut pieces for lining to match BODY SIDES, BOTTOM, BODY FRONT, and BODY BACK. Sew together. Place inside of STEGOSAURUS PURSE and sew to secure.

ZIPPER ATTACHMENT
Sew zipper in place of STEGOSAURUS PURSE.

LARGE BACK PLATES (MAKE 12):
Rw 1: With DC, ch 2, 2 sc in second ch from hook. (2)
Rw 2: Ch 1, turn; 2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc. (3)
Rw 3: Ch 1, turn; 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 2 sc. (4)
Rw 4: Ch 1, turn; 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 3 sc. (5)
Rw 5: Ch 1, turn; 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 4 sc. (6)
Rw 6: Ch 1, turn; 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 5 sc. (7)
Rw 7: Ch 1, turn; 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 6 sc. (8)
Rw 8: Ch 1, turn; sc3tog, sc in next 2 sc, sc3tog. (4)

Finish off leaving a long tail. Sew LARGE BACK PLATES to BODY. Weave in ends.

SMALL BACK PLATES (MAKE 8):
Rw 1: With DC, ch 2, 2 sc in second ch from hook. (2)
Rw 2: Ch 1, turn; 2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc. (3)
Rw 3: Ch 1, turn; 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 2 sc. (4)
Rw 4: Ch 1, turn; 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 3 sc. (5)
Rw 5: Ch 1, turn; 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 4 sc. (6)
Rw 6: Ch 1, turn; 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 5 sc. (7)

Finish off leaving a long tail.

STRAP (MAKE 2):
Rw 1: Working over round edge of D-ring, attach BC, ch 1, work 5 sc over the round edge.
Rws 2-200: Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc across. (5)
Finish off leaving a long tail. Holding 2 STRAPS together, sew together. Sew D-RING TABS to each end of BODY just above HEAD or TAIL. Weave in ends.
