IRIS RUBY GLOOM

This is a request from a customer on Etsy. This is the same customer that requested Ruby Gloom and Misery from a Canadian Flash-animated television series on the Mighty Fine apparel line of the same name created by cartoonist Martin Hsu. This is the pattern for Iris. An E crochet hook is used for everything except the HAIR BOW.

MATERIALS:
Worsted weight yarn—White, black, red, lilac, and gray.
E and B (only used for HAIR BOW) crochet hook
Polyester fiberfill
Tapestry needle

ARMS (MAKE 2):
Rd 1: With white, 9 sc in magic ring. (9)
Rd 2: sc in each sc around. (9)
Rd 3: 3 sc in next sc, sc in next 8 sc. (11)
Rd 4: sc3tog, sc in next 8 sc. (9)
Rd 5: (sc in next sc, sc2tog) around. (6)
Rd 6: (sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) around. (9)
Rds 7-19: sc in each sc around. (9)
Finish off. Weave in ends. Stuff ARMS firmly.

LEGS (MAKE 2):
Rd 1: With gray, ch 6, sc in second ch from hook, sc in next 3 ch, 3 sc in next ch working around ch, working in free loops of foundation ch, sc in next 3 ch, 2 sc in next ch, slip st in first sc. (12)
Rd 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next 3 sc, sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next 2 sc, slip st in first sc changing to red. (18)
Rd 3: Ch 1, sc in each sc around, slip st in first sc. (18)
Rd 4: Ch 1, sc in next 5 sc, (sc2tog) 3 times, sc in next 7 sc, slip st in first sc changing to gray. (15)

With black, fringe 2 pieces of desired lengths starting at top and working down back of head to ear line. Separate plies to get realistic look of hair.

Embroider FACE on IRIS.

HAIR BOW CENTER:
Rd 1: With black and with B crochet hook, ch 2, 4 sc in second ch from hook working around ch, slip st in first sc changing to red. (4)
Rd 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in each sc around, slip st in first sc. (8)
Finish off. Weave in ends.

HAIR BOW SIDES (MAKE 2):
Rd 1: With black and with B crochet hook, 6 sc in magic ring, slip st in first sc changing to red. (6)
Rd 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in each sc around. (12)
Finish off leaving a long tail. Sew HAIR BOW pieces together. Sew HAIR BOW to head. Weave in ends.

Finish off. Weave in ends. Repeat in second ARMHOLE.

SKIRT:
Rd 1: Attach black with slip st in first free loops of foundation ch of BODICE, ch 1, sc in each ch across. (28)

Rd 3: Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc around, slip st in first sc. (32)

Finish off. Weave in ends. Place DRESS on IRIS and sew back seam closed.

Finish off. Weave in ends. Using red, sew BUTTONS to DRESS.

SHOES (MAKE 2)
Rd 1: With black, ch 7, 2 sc in second ch from hook, sc in next 4 ch, 4 sc in next ch working around ch, working in free loops of foundation ch, sc in next 4 ch, 2 sc in next ch. (16)
Rd 2: 2 sc in next 2 sc, sc in next 4 sc, 2 sc in next 4 sc, sc in next 4 sc, 2 sc in next 2 sc. (24)

SHOE STRAPS (MAKE 2):

Finish off leaving a long tail. Sew SHOE STRAPS to SHOES. Place SHOES on IRIS and sew in place. Using white, embroider buckle on each SHOE. Weave in ends.
