PENDA

Penda is an original concept from the mind of an Etsy customer of mine.  She is designed to be the offspring of Kion and Fuli from the show “The Lion Guard” on Disney Junior.  She has the body color of Kion and the markings of Fuli. 

MATERIALS:
Worsted weight yarn:  Gold, buff, black, white, café latte, paddy green, yellow, red, and burnt pumpkin.
E crochet hook
Polyester Fiberfil
Tapestry needle
Paddy green crochet cotton or embroidery floss
Green chenille stem
OPTIONAL:  Floral wire

BODY:
Rd 1:      With gold, 8 sc in magic ring.  (8)
Rd 2:      2 sc in each sc around.  (16)
Rd 3:      sc in next 4 sc, (2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc) 3 times, 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 5 sc.  (20)
Rd 4:      (sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc) 4 times, sc in next 4 sc.  (24)

Rd 2:      Ch 1, turn; (sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) 3 times, change to gold, sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc, slip st in first sc.  (12)
Rd 3:      Ch 1, turn; sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc, change to buff, (sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc) 3 times, slip st in first sc.  (16)
Rd 4:      Ch 1, turn; sc in next 12 sc, change to gold, sc in next 4 sc, slip st in first sc.  (16)
Rd 5:      Ch 1, turn; sc in next 4 sc, change to buff, sc in next 12 sc, slip st in first sc.  (16)
Finish off leaving a long tail.  Sew to BODY adding stuffing in MUZZLE before closing.  Weave in ends.

MOUTH, NOSE, EYES, EYELASHES, AND EYEBROWS:
Using picture as guide, embroider MOUTH, NOSE, EYES and EYEBROWS on PENDA.  NOSE is done with burnt pumpkin.  Fringe on a small piece of black at corner of each eye for EYELASHES.

EARS (MAKE 2):
INNER EARS (MAKE 2):
Rd 1:      With café latte, ch 4, 2 sc in second ch from hook, sc in next ch, 3 sc in next ch working around ch, working in free loops of foundation ch, sc in next 2 ch.  (8)
Rd 2:      (3 sc in next sc, sc in next 3 sc) around, slip st in next sc.  (12)
Finish off.  Weave in ends.
Rw 3:     Skip next sc, attach gold, ch 2, dc in same sc as attachment, hdc in next sc, sc in next 4 sc, slip st in next sc.
Finish off.  Weave in ends.
OUTER EARS (MAKE 2):
Rd 1:      With gold, ch 4, 2 sc in second ch from hook, sc in next ch, 3 sc in next ch working around ch, working in free loops of foundation ch, sc in next 2 ch.  (8)
Rd 2:      (3 sc in next sc, sc in next 3 sc) around, slip st in next sc.  (12)
Finish off.  Weave in ends.
Rw 3:     slip st in next sc, ch 2, dc in same sc as last slip st, hdc in next sc, sc in next 4 sc, slip st in next sc.
Finish off.  Weave in ends
Rd 4:      Holding INNER EAR and OUTER EAR together and working through both thicknesses, attach black in same sc as ch-2 but working on opposite side, ch 2, dc in same sc as attachment, hdc in next sc, sc in next 3 sc, change to gold, sc in next sc, 3 sc in next sc, working in sc of Rw 3, sc in next sc, change to black, sc in next sc, change to gold, sc in next 2 sc, change to black, sc in next sc, change to gold, sc in next sc. 
Finish off leaving a long tail.  Sew EARS to HEAD.  Weave in ends.

HAIR:
Fringe on pieces of red to HEAD.

BELLY:
Rw 1:     With buff, ch 11, sc2tog, sc in next 6 ch, sc2tog.  (8)
Rws 2-10:             Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc across.  (8)
Rw 11:   Ch 1, turn; 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 6 sc, 2 sc in next sc.  (10)
Rws 12-23:           Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc across.  (10)
Rw 24:   Ch 1, turn; sc2tog, sc in next 6 sc, sc2tog.  (8)

TAIL:

BEGIN STUFFING TAIL FIRMLY.  CONTINUE STUFFING TAIL FIRMLY AS YOU GO ALONG.

LION GUARD LOGO:
Embroider LION GUARD LOGO on shoulder of Left LEG using paddy green crochet cotton or embroidery floss.

BODY MARKINGS: Using black, embroider BODY MARKINGS on PENDA.  The BODY MARKINGS are randomly placed on the BODY, LEGS and HEAD of PENDA

FLOWER STEM:
Rw 1:     With paddy green, ch 15, working over green chenille stem, sc in second ch from hook and in each ch across.  (14)
Finish off.  Weave in ends.

FLOWER:
Rd 1:      With yellow, 5 sc in magic ring.  (5)
Rd 2:      2 sc in each sc around, slip st in first sc changing to paddy green.  (10)
Rd 3:      (ch 4, sc in second ch from hook, hdc in next ch, dc in next ch, skip next sc, slip st in next sc) around. 
Finish off.  Weave in ends.  Attach FLOWER to FLOWER STEM.  Attach FLOWER to HEAD just over the left EAR.  Weave in ends.
