DEVIL DOG

This is an adaptation of my Little Football Player doll to make a “DEVIL DOG” based on a drawing from a coworker. I am pretty sure that the character has a name. I just don’t know what it is.

MATERIALS:
Worsted weight yarn: shocking pink, baby pink, white, black,
D (DEVIL DOG) and Size 6 (Globe and sword) crochet hook
Friendship bracelet thread (FBT): aqua, green, black, white, gray, brown.
Polyester fiberfill
Tapestry needle
Toothpick

DOLL:
ARMS (MAKE 2):
STUFF ARMS AS YOU GO.
Rd 1: With shocking pink, 6 sc in magic ring. (6)
Rd 2: sc in each sc around. (6)
Rd 3: 2dc popcorn st in next sc, sc in next 5 sc.
Rds 4-9: sc in each sc around. (6)
Finish off. Weave in ends.

LEGS (MAKE 2):
Rd 1: With shocking pink, ch 4, sc in second ch from hook, sc in next ch, 3 sc in next ch working around, working in free loops of foundation ch, sc in next ch, 2 sc in next ch. (8)
Rds 2-3: sc in each sc around. (8)
NOW WORKING IN ROWS.
Rw 4: sc in next 5 sc. (5)
Rw 5: Ch 1 turn; sc in next 4 sc. (4)
Rw 6: Ch 1, turn; sc2tog, sc2tog. (2)

BEGIN STUFFING LEGS FIRMLY. CONTINUE STUFFING LEGS FIRMLY AS YOU GO ALONG.

Finish off with first LEG. DO NOT FINISH OFF WITH SECOND LEG. Using black, embroider toenails on LEGS. Weave in ends.

BODY:

Finish off leaving a long tail. Sew EARS to BODY. Using pink FBT, embroider inner ear on each EAR. Weave in ends.

MUZZLE:
Rd 1: With shocking pink, 6 sc in magic ring. (6)
Rd 2: (2 hdc in next sc, sc in next 2 sc) around. (8)
Finish off leaving a long tail. Sew MUZZLE to BODY stuffing before closing. Weave in ends.

EYES, NOSE, AND MOUTH:
Use embroidery floss to embroider eyes, nose, and mouth on doll.

SHORTS:
Rw 1: With white, ch 17, sc in second ch from hook and in each ch across. (16)
Rw 2: Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc across, slip st in first sc. (16)
Finish off leaving a long tail.

FIRST SHORTS LEG:
Rd 1: Skip next 4 sc, attach white in next sc, ch 1, sc in same sc as attachment, sc in next 3 sc, skip next 8 sc, sc in next 4 sc. (8)
Rd 2: Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc around. (8)
Finish off leaving a long tail.

SECOND SHORTS LEG:
Rd 1: Skip next 4 sc, attach white in next sc, ch 1, sc in same sc as attachment, sc in next 3 sc, working in skipped sc, sc in next 4 sc. (8)
Rd 2: Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc around. (8)
Finish off leaving a long tail. Place SHORTS on DEVIL DOG. Sew back seam and leg seams closed. Weave in ends.

TAIL:
Rw 1: With shocking pink, ch 13, sc in second ch from hook, dc in next ch, slip st in next ch working through center of last dc, slip st in next 10 ch.
Finish off leaving a long tail. Sew TAIL to back of SHORTS. Weave in ends.
