ZUMA THE SCEPTILE


This is an adaptation of Sceptile designed by a customer on Etsy and brought to plush by me. 

MATERIALS:
Worsted Weight Yarn:    Spring green, medium thyme, buff, yellow, red, white, and black
E crochet hook
Polyester fiberfill
Yarn Needle
Floral wire
White crochet cotton
Beading needle
18 small golden yellow beads

FINGERS (MAKE 6):
Rd 1:      With medium thyme, ch 2, 4 sc in second ch from hook working around ch.  (4)
Rds 2-3:                sc in each sc around.  (4)
Finish off in FINGERS 1-4, do not finish off in FINGERS 5 and 6.

ARMS (MAKE 2):
Rd 1:      sc in next 2 sc of FINGERS 5 or 6, sc in next 2 sc of FINGERS 1 or 2, sc in next 4 sc of FINGERS 3 or 4, sc in next 2 sc of FINGERS 1 or 2, sc in next 2 sc of FINGERS 5 or 6. (12)
Rd 2:      sc in each sc around.  (12)
Rd 3:      (sc in next 4 sc, sc2tog) around.  (10)

SHOLDER LEAVES (MAKE 2):

Finish off leaving a long tail.  Wrap around ARM and sew to BODY.  Weave in ends.

FRONT OF HEAD (MAKE 2-1 IN SPRING GREEN, 1 IN BUFF):
Rw 1:     Ch 2, 3 sc in second ch from hook.  (3)
Rw 2:     Ch 1, turn; sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc.  (4)
Rw 3:     Ch 1, turn; sc in next sc, 2 sc in next 2 sc, sc in next sc.  (6)
Rw 4:     Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc across.  (6)
Rw 5:     Ch 1, turn; sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc.  (8)

Holding two FRONTS OF HEAD together with wrong side touching and with spring green side up, ch 1, working in the side of Rws, sc in next 10 Rws, 3 hdc in free loop of foundation ch, sc in next 10 Rws.
Finish off.  Weave in ends.

BACK OF HEAD:
Rd 1:      sc in each sc of both FRONT OF HEAD pieces.  (30)
Rds 2-5:                sc in each sc around.  (30)
Rd 6:      (sc in next 3 sc, sc2tog) around.  (24)
Rd 7:      (sc in next 2 sc, sc2tog) around.  (18)
STUFF HEAD FIRMLY.  CONTINUE STUFFING AS YOU GO ALONG.
Rd 8:      (sc in next sc, sc2tog) around.  (12)
Rd 9:      sc2tog around.  (6)
Finish off leaving a long tail.  Weave tail through sc of Rd 9, pull tightly and secure.  Sew HEAD to BODY.

HEAD WINGS (MAKE 2):
Rw 1:     With spring green, ch 17, slip st in second ch from hook, sc in next 5 ch, hdc in next 4 ch, dc in next 2 ch, ch 4, sc in second ch from hook, hdc in next ch, dc in next ch, slip st in same ch as last dc, (ch 3, sc in second ch from hook, hdc in next ch, skip next ch, slip st in next ch) twice.
Finish off leaving a long tail.  Sew HEAD WINGS to HEAD with first slip st at Rd 5 of HEAD.  Weave in ends.

EYES AND TEETH:
Embroider EYES and TEETH on HEAD of ZUMA THE SCEPTILE.

LEGS (MAKE 2):

Finish off leaving a long tail.  Sew TOENAILS to LEGS.  Weave in ends.

TAIL:

Rw 4:     Ch 1, turn; 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 5 sc, sc2tog.  (8)
Rw 5:     Ch 1, turn; sc2tpg. (2 dc, ch 2, slip st) in next sc, sc2tog, sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc. 
Finish off.  Weave in ends.  Sew TAIL FEATHERS to TAIL.  Weave in ends. 

TAIL BALLS (MAKE 6):
Rd 1:      With yellow, 6 sc in magic ring.  (6)
Rd 2:      (sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around.  (8)
Rds 3-4:                sc in each sc around.  (8)
STUFF BALLS FIRMLY.
Rd 5:      (sc in next 2 sc, sc2tog) around.  (6)
Finish off leaving a long tail.  Weave tail through sc of Rd 5, pull tightly and secure.  Sew TAIL BALLS to TAIL.  Weave in ends

NECKLACE:
CENTER BEAD:
Rd 1:      With yellow, ch 2, 4 sc in second ch from hook.  (4)
Rd 2:      sc in each sc around.  (4)
Rd 3:      (sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) around.  (6)
Rds 4-5:                sc in each sc around.  (6)
Finish off leaving a long tail. Weave tail through sc of Rd 5, pull tightly and secure.  Weave in ends.  String 9 golden yellow beads, then the CENTER BEAD, then 9 more golden yellow beads.  Wrap around neck of ZUMA THE SCEPTILE and tie off.  Weave in ends.

SWORD:
SWORD HILT:
Rw 1:     With buff, ch 16, sc in second ch from hook and in each ch across.  (15)
Rw 2:     Ch 1, turn; sc in next 7 sc, leave remaining sc unworked.  (7)
Rw 3:     Ch 9, sc in second ch from hook, sc in next 7 ch, sc in next 7 sc.  (15)
Rw 4:     Ch 1, turn; sc in next 7 sc, leave remaining sc unworked, ch 10, slip st in first sc. 
Finish off leaving a long tail.  Wrap SWORD HILT around wooden skewer and sew foundation ch and Rw 4 together.  Weave in ends.  Roll end of Rw 1 up and sew together.  Roll end of Rw 3 down and sew together.  Weave in ends.  With medium thyme, embroider jewel on each side of SWORD HILT. 

SWORD BLADE (MAKE 2):
Rw 1:     With spring green, ch 2, 2 sc in second ch from hook.  (2)
