DRAGON HAND PUPPET

This is my version of something that my daughter saw on Pinterest and asked me to make one for her. The original version was designed by Lauren and can be purchased on a website called Fiber and Fables. I prefer to try to create my own version. I know that this may look like very close to Laruen’s version. This pattern can be made in any combination of colors. I used red for the body (BC) and flame for the contrasting color (CC). Those colors were picked by my daughter.

MATERIALS:
Worsted Weight Yarn: Body Color (BC), Contrasting Color (CC), white, yellow and black.
D crochet hook
Polyester Fiberfill
Tapestry needle
Velcro
Glue
Floral wire (OPTIONAL)

HEAD:
Rd 1: With BC, 6 sc in magic ring. (6)
Rd 2: 2 sc in each sc around. (12)
Rds 3-7: sc in each sc around. (12)
Rd 8: sc in next 4 sc, 2 sc in next 4 sc, sc in next 4 sc. (16)
Rd 9: sc in next 4 sc, (2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc) twice, (sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) twice, sc in next 4 sc. (20)
Rds 10-13: sc in each sc around. (20)
Finish off. Weave in ends.

NOSTRILS:
Rw 1: Working centered over Rd 3, attach BC with slip st, 2 sc in next sc, slip st in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc, slip st in next sc.
Finish off. Weave in ends.

EYES:
Using yellow and black, embroider EYES on HEAD.

EYEBROWS (COMPLETE ABOVE BOTH EYES):
Rw 1: Working over Rds and working toward nose, attach red, ch 1, 2 sc in next Rd, (sc, slip st) in next Rd.
Finish off. Weave in ends.

BODY:
Rd 1: skip next 6 sc on HEAD, attach BC in next sc, ch 1, sc in same sc as attachment, (sc2tog, sc in next sc) 4 times. (9)
Rd 2: Ch 1, turn; (sc2tog) twice, sc in next sc, (sc2tog) twice. (5)
Rd 3: Ch 1, working in back loops only, sc in next 5 sc, working in front loops, sc in next 5 sc. (10)
Rds 4-10: sc in each sc around. (10)
Rd 11: (sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) around. (15)
Rd 12: (sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around. (20)
Rd 13: (sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) around. (30)
Rd 14: (sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around. (40)
Rd 15: (sc in next 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around. (48)

HORNS (MAKE 2):
Rd 1: With white, ch 2, 4 sc in second ch from hook working around ch. (4)
Rd 2: sc in each sc around. (4)
Rd 3: (sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) around. (6)
Rds 4-6: sc in each sc around. (6)
Finish off leaving a long tail. Stuff HORNS firmly. Sew HORNS to HEAD and BODY.

WING PART 1 (MAKE 2):
Rw 1: With CC, ch 2, sc in second ch from hook. (1)
Rw 2: Ch 1, turn; 2 sc in next sc. (2)
Rw 3: Ch 1, turn; 2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc. (3)
Rw 4: Ch 1, turn; 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 2 sc. (4)
Rw 5: Ch 1, turn; 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 3 sc. (5)
Rw 6: Ch 1, turn; 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 4 sc. (6)
Rw 7: Ch 1, turn; 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 5 sc. (7)
Rw 8: Ch 1, turn; 2 sc in next sc. Sc in next 6 sc. (8) Change to BC.
Rw 9: Ch 1, working in the side of Rws, sc in next 8 Rws, sc in foundation ch.
Finish off. Weave in ends.

WING PART 2 (MAKE 2):
Rw 1: With CC, ch 2, sc in second ch from hook. (1)
Rw 2: Ch 1, turn; 2 sc in next sc. (2)
Rw 3: Ch 1, turn; 2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc. (3)
Rw 4: Ch 1, turn; 2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc. (5)
Rw 5: Ch 1, turn; sc in next 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc. (6)
Rw 6: Ch 1, turn; 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc. (8)
Rw 7: Ch 1, turn; 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 7 sc. (9)
Rw 8: Ch 1, turn; 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 8 sc. (10) Change to BC.
Rw 9: Ch 1, turn; working in the side of Rws, sc in next 8 Rw, 3 sc in foundation ch, working in the side of Rws, sc in next 8 Rws.
Rw 10: Ch 1, holding next sc on WING PART 2 and first sc of Rw 9 of WING PART 1, sc in next 9 sc.
Finish off. Weave in ends.

WING PART 3 (MAKE 2):
Rw 1: With CC, ch 2, sc in second ch from hook. (1)
Rw 2: Ch 1, turn; 2 sc in next sc. (2)
Rw 3: Ch 1, turn; 2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc. (3)
Rw 4: Ch 1, turn; 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 2 sc. (4)
Rw 5: Ch 1, turn; 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 3 sc. (5)
Rw 6: Ch 1, turn; 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 4 sc. (6)
Rw 7: Ch 1, turn; 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 5 sc. (7)

Rw 19: Ch 1, turn; holding next sc on WING PART 3 and first sc of Rw 9 of WING PART 2 together and working through both thicknesses, sc in next 9 sc.
Finish off. Weave in ends.

WING ARMS (COMPLETE ON BOTH WINGS):
Rw 1: Attach BC in the side of Rw 8 of WING PART 1, ch 1, sc in same Rw as attachment, sc in next 7 Rws, sc in foundation ch, sc in the side of Rw 9 of WING PART 1, sc in next sc of Rw 9 of WING PART 2, (sc, hdc, dc, hdc, sc) in next sc, sc in next sc, sc in the side of Rw 18 of WING PART 3, sc in foundation ch of WING PART 3, working in the side of Rws, sc in next 17 Rws, working in sc of Rw 17, 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 4 sc.
Finish off leaving a long tail. Sew WINGS to BODY. Weave in ends.

FINGER COVERS (MAKE 2):
Rd 1: With BC, 6 sc in magic ring. (6)
Rd 2: 2 sc in each sc around. (12)
Rds 3-10: sc in each sc around. (12)
Finish off leaving a long tail. Sew FINGER COVERS to WINGS. Weave in ends.

WRIST STRAP:
Rw 1: With BC, ch 51, sc in second ch from hook and in each ch across. (50)
Rws 2-6: Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc across. (50)
Finish off. Sew WRIST STRAP to BODY. Weave in ends. Glue Velcro to WRIST STRAP.
