U*SA*HA*NA

U*SA*HA*NA (ウサハナ, Usahana), also written simplified as Usahana, is a Sanrio character who is a colorful, lively little girl bunny that loves summer. She was originally designed for women working in the office to color their desks and soothe their hearts. Her charm points are her long, curved ears and round blue eyes. She stands three tulips high and weighs as much as a muscat grape. She dreams of one day becoming a ballerina. Her favorite flowers are sunflowers, and she loves to eat orange-flavored sherbet. She lives on a tiny island and likes baking sweets and collecting earrings.

U*SA*HA*NA was a request from a customer that I met through Instagram. The Size 7 crochet hook is only used with the friendship bracelet thread to make the little flowers on U*SA*HA*NA’s left ear.

MATERIALS:
Worsted weight yarn: Delft blue, gold, light blue, lemon, and perfect pink.
Friendship bracelet thread: orange, gold, and baby pink.
E and Size 7 crochet hook
Polyester fiberfill
Tapestry needle
Glue

ARMS (MAKE 2):
Rd 1: With lemon or perfect pink, 5 sc in magic ring. (5)
Rd 2: 2 sc in each sc around. (10)
Rds 3-13: sc in each sc around. (10)
Finish off. Stuff ARMS firmly.

LEGS (MAKE 2):
Rd 1: With delft blue or gold, 5 sc in magic ring. (5)
Rd 2: 2 sc in each sc around. (10)
Rd 3: (sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) around. (15)
Rds 4-13: sc in each sc around. (15)
Finish off first leg. Do not finish off after making gold leg changing to light blue.

EYES (MAKE 2):
Rd 1: With delft blue, ch 4, 2 sc in second ch from hook, sc in next ch, 3 sc in next ch working around ch, working in free loops of foundation ch, sc in next 2 ch, slip st in first sc. (8)
Finish off leaving a long tail. Sew EYES to head of U*SA*HA*NA. Weave in ends.

NOSE AND MOUTH:
Using perfect pink, embroider the nose and mouth on the head.

TAIL:
Rd 1: With perfect pink, 6 sc in magic ring. (6)
Rd 2: 2 sc in each sc around. (12)
Rds 3-4: sc in each sc around. (12)
STUFF TAIL FIRMLY.
Rd 5: sc2tog around. (6)
Finish off leaving a long tail. Weave tail through sc of Rd 5, pull tightly and secure. Sew TAIL to BODY. Weave in ends.

EAR FLOWERS (MAKE 2-1 IN ORANGE/GOLD AND 1 IN GOLD/BABY PINK):
Rd 1: With orange or gold friendship bracelet thread and Size 7 crochet hook, 8 sc in magic ring, slip st in first sc changing to gold or baby pink. (8)
Rd 2: [(sc, 2 dc, sc) in next sc, slip st in next sc) 4 times.
Finish off. Weave in ends. Glue EAR FLOWERS to head in front of the left EAR.
