KOVU


Kovu is another character from the Lion King and Lion Guard series of television shows and movies by Disney. This is a request from a Lion King obsessed customer on Etsy. This is the third character for her. I am sure that this will not be the last.

MATERIALS:
Worsted weight yarn: Tan, coffee, buff, pale yellow, spring green, black, baby pink, and white.
E crochet hook
Polyester Fiberfil
Tapestry needle
OPTIONAL: Floral wire

BODY:
Rd 1: With tan, 8 sc in magic ring. (8)
Rd 2: 2 sc in each sc around. (16)
Rd 3: sc in next 4 sc, (2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc) 3 times, 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 5 sc. (20)
Rd 4: (sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc) 4 times, sc in next 4 sc. (24)
Rd 5: (sc in next 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc) 4 times, sc in next 4 sc. (28)
Rd 6: sc in next 6 sc, (2 sc in next sc, sc in next 4 sc) 3 times, 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 6 sc. (32)

Finish off leaving a long tail. Weave tail through sc of Rd 32, pull tightly and secure. Weave in ends.

HEAD:
Rd 1: With tan, 8 sc in magic ring. (8)
Rd 2: 2 sc in each sc around. (16)

Rd 4: (sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around. (32)

Rd 6: Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc around, slip st in first sc. (40)

MUZZLE:
Rd 1: With buff, 8 sc in magic ring. (8)
Rd 2: (sc in next sc, 3 sc in next sc) around. (16)
Rds 3-6: sc in each sc around. (16)
Finish off leaving a long tail. Sew to BODY adding stuffing in MUZZLE before closing. Weave in ends.

MOUTH, NOSE, EYES AND SCAR:
Using black, pale yellow, spring green, and white, embroider EYES on HEAD. Using black, embroider NOSE and MOUTH on MUZZLE. Using baby pink, embroider SCAR on HEAD.

WHISKERS:
Using black, fringe WHISKERS on MUZZLE.

SIDEBURNS (MAKE 2):
Rw 1: With tan, ch 2, sc in second ch from hook. (1)
Rw 2: Ch 1, turn; 2 sc in next sc. (2)
Rw 3: Ch 1, turn; 2 sc in next 2 sc. (4)
Rw 4: Ch 1, turn; 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc. (6)
Finish off leaving a long tail. Sew SIDEBURNS to HEAD. Weave in ends.

EARS (MAKE 2):
INNER EARS (MAKE 2):

Rd 1: With coffee, ch 4, 2 sc in second ch from hook, sc in next ch, 3 sc in next ch working around ch, working in free loops of foundation ch, sc in next 2 ch. (8)
Rd 2: (3 sc in next sc, sc in next 3 sc) around, slip st in next sc. (12)
Finish off. Weave in ends.
Rw 3: skip next 2 sc, attach tan, ch 1, sc in same sc as attachment, sc in next 3 sc, hdc in next sc, dc in next sc.
Finish off. Weave in ends.
OUTER EARS (MAKE 2):
Rd 1: With tan, ch 4, 2 sc in second ch from hook, sc in next ch, 3 sc in next ch working around ch, working in free loops of foundation ch, sc in next 2 ch. (8)
Rd 2: (3 sc in next sc, sc in next 3 sc) around, slip st in next sc. (12)
Finish off. Weave in ends.
Rw 3: slip st in next 2 sc, ch 1, sc in same sc as last slip st, sc in next 3 sc, hdc in next sc, dc in next sc.
Rd 4: Holding INNER EAR and OUTER EAR together and working through both thicknesses, sc in next 6 sts, 2 sc in same sc as last slip st of Rw 3, sc in next 6 sc on Rd 2.
Finish off leaving a long tail. Sew EARS to HEAD. Weave in ends.

HAIR:
Fringe on pieces of coffee to HAIR.

BELLY:

Rd 3: (sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) around. (18)
Rd 4: (sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around, slip st in first sc. (24)

STUFF LOWER PORTION OF HIND LEGS FIRMLY AND UPPER PORTION OF HIND LEGS MODERATELY BECAUSE YOU NEED THE UPPER PORTION TO FLATTEN.
Rd 25: sc2tog around. (6)
Finish off leaving a long tail. Weave tail through sc of Rd 25, pull tightly and secure. Sew HIND LEGS to BODY. Weave in ends. Using black, embroider foot pads on each HIND LEG.

TAIL:
Rd 1: With tan, ch 2, 4 sc in second ch from hook working around ch. (4)
BEGIN STUFFING TAIL FIRMLY. CONTINUE STUFFING TAIL FIRMLY AS YOU GO ALONG.
Rds 2-24: sc in each sc around. (4)
Finish off leaving a long tail. OPTIONAL: Insert floral wire to make the TAIL flexible. Sew TAIL to BODY. Weave in ends. Fringe on pieces of coffee to end of TAIL.
