THE WINGED DRAGON OF RA

This is a pattern continues a series of characters from the Yu-Gi-Oh! card game and show.  This is the Winged Dragon of Ra.  I will give anyone trying to make Winged Dragon of Ra that he is not easy.  Please do not ask me why the one in the picture looks bigger than the pattern creates because it is.  The one that was requested and pictured is made by doubling the number of stitches and rounds from this pattern.

MATERIALS:

Worsted weight yarn:  Gold, blue, black, white, and red.

E crochet hook

Polyester Fiberfil

Tapestry needle

BODY:

Rd 1:      With gold, 9 sc in magic ring.  (9)

Rd 2:      2 sc in each sc around.  (18)

Rd 3:      (sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) around.  (27)

Rd 4:      sc in next 5 sc, 2 sc in next sc, (sc in next 6 sc, 2 sc in next sc) 3 times.  (31)

Rd 5:      sc in next 6 sc, 2 sc in next sc, (sc in next 5 sc, 2 sc in next sc) 4 times.  (36)

Rd 6:      (sc in next 8 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around.  (40)

Rd 7:      (sc in next 7 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around.  (45)

INSIDE OF MOUTH (MAKE 2):

Rd 1:      With black, ch 6, sc in second ch from hook, sc in next 3 ch, 3 sc in next ch working around ch, working in foundation ch, sc in next 4 ch.  (11)

Rd 2:      Ch 1, turn; sc in next 4 sc, 2 sc in next 3 sc, sc in next 4 sc.  (14)

Finish off leaving a long tail.  Sew INSIDE OF MOUTH pieces together.

TOP/ BOTTOM OF BEAK (MAKE 2):

Rd 1:      With gold, ch 6, sc in second ch from hook, sc in next 3 ch, 3 sc in next ch working around ch, working in foundation ch, sc in next 4 ch.  (11)

Rd 2:      Ch 1, turn; sc in next 4 sc, 2 sc in next 3 sc, sc in next 4 sc.  (14)

Rd 3:      Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc around.  (14)  Change to white.

Rd 4:      Holding TOP OF BEAK and INSIDE OF MOUTH together and working through both thicknesses, sc in each sc around.  (14)

 Finish off leaving a long tail.

BACK OF HEAD:

Rd 1:      Attach gold, in center of BOTTOM OF HEAD, ch 1, sc in same ch, sc in side of next 3 Rws, sc in side of next Rw of TOP OF HEAD, 2 sc in next 2 Rws, 2 sc in next ch of TOP OF HEAD, 2 sc in next 2 Rws, sc in side of next Rw of TOP OF HEAD, sc in side of next 3 Rws of BOTTOM OF HEAD.  (19)

NECK:

Finish off.  Weave in ends.  Stuff NECK firmly.  Sew NECK to HEAD.

MOHAWK:

Rw 1:     With gold, ch 2, 3 sc in second ch from hook.  (3)

Rw 2:     Ch 1, turn; 2 sc in next sc, change to blue, sc in next sc, change to gold, 2 sc in next sc.  (5)

Rw 3:     Ch 1, turn; 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc.  (7)

Rws 4-5:               Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc across.  (7)

Rw 6:     Ch 1, turn; sc2tog, sc in next 3 sc, sc2tog.  (5)

Rw 7:     Ch 1, turn; sc2tog, sc in next sc, sc2tog.  (3)

Rw 8:     Ch 1, turn; sc3tog.  (1)

Finish off.  Sew Rws 1-5 of MOHAWK to HEAD.  Add stuffing and sew Rws 6-8 together.

MOHAWK FRONT POINT:

Rw 1:     With gold, ch 2, 2 sc in second ch from hook.  (2)

Rw 2:     Ch 1, turn; 2 sc in each sc across.  (4)

Rw 3:     Ch 1, turn; sc2tog, sc2tog.  (2)

Rw 4:     Ch 1, turn; sc2tog.  (1)

Finish off leaving a long tail.  Sew MOHAWK FRONT POINT to MOHAWK.

EYES:

Using red, embroider EYES on HEAD.

SIDE HEAD PODS (MAKE 2):

Rd 1:      With gold, 6 sc in magic ring.  (8)

Rd 2:      2 sc in each sc across.  (16)

Rd 3:      sc in each sc around.  (16)

Rd 4:      sc2tog around.  (8)

Finish off leaving a long tail.  Add small amount of stuffing.  Weave tail through sc of Rd 4, pull tightly and secure.  Sew SIDE HEAD PODS to HEAD.

SIDE HEAD PODS WINGS 1 (MAKE 2):

Rw 1:     With gold, ch 7, sc in second ch from hook, sc in next 2 ch, hdc in next 2 ch, 2 dc in next ch.  (7)

Rw 2:     Ch 2, turn; working over floral wire, 2 dc in next dc, hdc in next 3 sts, sc in next 3 sc.  (8)

Finish off leaving a long tail.  Feed floral wire through SIDE HEAD PODS.  Sew SIDE HEAD PODS WINGS 1 to SIDE HEAD PODS.

SIDE HEAD PODS WINGS 2 (MAKE 2):

Rw 1:     With gold, ch 7, sc in second ch from hook, sc in next 2 ch, hdc in next 2 ch, dc in next ch.  (6)

Rw 2:     Ch 2, turn; working over floral wire, dc in next dc, hdc in next 2 hdc, sc in next 3 sc.  (6)

Finish off leaving a long tail.  Sew SIDE HEAD PODS WINGS 2 to SIDE HEAD PODS. 

SHOULDERS (MAKE 2):

Rd 1:      With gold, 8 sc in magic ring.  (8)

Rd 2:      2 sc in each sc around.  (16)

Rd 3:      Working in back loops only, sc in each sc around.  (16)

Rd 4:      sc in each sc around.  (16)

Rd 5:      (sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around.  (20)

Rds 6-10:              sc in each sc around.  (20)

Finish off leaving a long tail.  Stuff SHOULDERS firmly.  Sew SHOULDERS to BODY.

SHOULDER GUARDS (MAKE 2):

Rd 1:      With gold, 8 sc in magic ring.  (8)

Rd 2:      2 sc in each sc around.  (16)

Rd 3:      (sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) around.  (24)

Rd 4:      (sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around.  (32)

Finish off leaving a long tail.  Sew SHOULDER GUARDS to BODY and SHOULDERS.

SHOULDER RAINBOW:

Rd 1:      With gold, ch 28, sc in second ch from hook, sc in next ch, 2 sc in next ch, (sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc) 8 times.  (36)

Rd 2:      Ch 1, turn; working over floral wire, (sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around.  (45)

Finish off leaving a long tail.  Sew SHOULDER RAINBOW to each SHOULDER GUARD.

FINGERS (MAKE 6):

Rd 1:      With gold, ch 2, 4 sc in second ch from hook working around ch.  (4)

Rds 2-4:                sc in each sc around.  (4)

Finish off in first 2 FINGERS for each ARM.  DO NOT FINISH OFF IN THIRD FINGER FOR EACH ARM.

HANDS AND ARMS (MAKE 2):

Rd 1:      sc in next 2 sc on third FINGER, sc in next 2 sc on first FINGER, sc in next 4 sc on second FINGER, sc in next 2 sc on first FINGER, sc in next 2 sc on third FINGER.  (12)

Rds 2-4:                sc in each sc around.  (12)

Rd 5:      (sc in next 4 sc, sc2tog) around.  (10)

Rd 6:      sc in each sc around.  (10)

Rd 7:      (sc in next 3 sc, sc2tog) around.  (8)

BEGIN STUFFING ARMS FIRMLY.  CONTINUE STUFFING ARMS AS YOU GO ALONG.

Finish off leaving a long tail.  Insert floral wire to give ARMS flexibility.  Sew ARMS to SHOULDER.

Finish off leaving a long tail.  Sew ARM WINGS to ARMS.

Rw 2:     Ch 1, working over sc of Rw 1 and floral wire, 2 dc over next sc, sc over next 20 sc, holding next sc of WING ARM together with flattened WING CLAW and working through all thicknesses, sc in next 7 sc, working over sc of Rw 1 of WING ARM, dc in next 17 sc.

Finish off leaving a long tail.  Sew WINGS to BODY.
