ELEPHANT BOWLING SET

This set is a result of me working on the giraffe bowling set that I made for my wife while at work.  A co-worker saw me working on it.  My inspiration is a Penguin Bowling Set using the following pattern:  www.bittersweetblog.com/2009/01/19/not-quite-duck-pins.  My co-worker has brought on a series of animal-themed bowling sets.  This is an elephant bowling set.

MATERIALS:
Worsted weight yarn:   Gray and black.
F crochet hook
Polyester fiberfill
Tapestry needle
Tennis Ball
1 set of 12mm safety eyes for each elephant
6 plastic Yogurt lids or cardboard circles of equivalent size.

ELEPHANT:
BODY:
Rd 1: With gray, 6 sc in magic ring.  (6)
Rd 2: 2 sc in each sc around.  (12)
Rd 3: (sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) around.  (18)
Rds 4-5: sc in each sc around.  (18)
Rd 6: (sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around.  (24)
Rds 7-8: sc inn each sc around.  (24)
Rd 9: (sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around.  (30)
Rds 10-11: sc in each sc around.  (30)
Rd 12: (sc in next 5 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around.  (35)
Rds 13-14: sc in each sc around.  (35)
Rd 15: (sc in next 6 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around.  (40)
Rds 16-30: sc in each sc around.  (40)
Rd 31: Working back loops only, sc in each sc around.  (40)
STUFF BODY FIRMLY, AND FOR EXTRA STABILITY, INSERT A YOGURT LID CUT TO SIZE INTO THE BOTTOM.
Rd 32: (sc in next 3 sc, sc2tog) around.  (32)
Rd 33: (sc in next 2 sc, sc2tog) around.  (24)
Rd 34: (sc in next sc, sc2tog) around.  (16)
Rd 35: sc2tog around.  (8)
Finish off leaving a long tail.  Weave tail through sc of Rd 35, pull tightly, and secure.  Weave in ends.

HEAD:
Rd 1: With gray, ch 3, sc in second ch from hook, 3 sc in next ch, working along in the opposite, 2 sc in next ch.  (6)
Rds 2- 10: sc in each sc around.  (6)
Rd 11: 2 sc in each sc around.  (12)
Rd 12: (sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) around.  (18)
Rd 13: (sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around.  (24)
Rds  14-18: sc in each sc around.  (24)
Rd 19: (sc in next 2 sc, sc2tog) around.  (18)
Rd 20: (sc in next sc, sc2tog) around.  (12)
INSERT EYES AND STUFF HEAD LIGHTLY.
Rd 21: sc2tog around.  (6)
Finish off leaving a long tail.  Weave tail through sc of Rd , pull tightly, and secure.  Sew HEAD to BODY.  Embroider mouth on HEAD.

EARS (MAKE 2):
Rw 1: With gray, ch 6, sc in second ch from hook, 2 sc in next 2 sc, sc in next 2 sc.  (7)
Rw 2: Ch 1, turn; sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next 2 sc, sc in next 3 sc.  (9)
Rw 3: Ch 1, turn; sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next 2 sc, sc in next 4 sc.  (11)
Rw 4: Ch 1, turn; sc in next 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 4 sc.  (13)
Rw 5: Ch 1, turn; sc in next 5 sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 5 sc.  (15)
Rw 6: Ch 1, turn; sc in next 6 sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 6 sc.  (17)
Finish off.  Weave in ends.  Sew EARS to HEAD.

TAIL:
Rw 1: Attach gray on back of BODY, ch 5.  Finish off.  Fray the end.

Rd 1: With bowling ball color, 6 sc in magic ring.  (6)
Rd 2: 2 sc in each sc around.  (12)
Rd 3: (sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) around.  (18)
Rd 4: (sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around.  (24)
Rd 5: (sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around.  (30)
Rd 6: (sc in next 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around.  (36)
Rd 7: (sc in next 5 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around.  (42)
Rds 8-11: sc in each sc around.  (42)
Rd 12: (sc in next 5 sc, sc2tog) around.  (36)

INSERT TENNIS BALL, WHILE HOLDING IN PLACE, CONTINUE TO CROCHET AROUND IT.  YOU MAY NEED TO PULL YOUR FINISHED WORK TIGHTLY TO GET IT TO COVER THE BALL COMPLETELY.
