GIRAFFE HAT
As I have said on many of my posts in the past, my wife is crazy about giraffes. After making a fox scarf and hat, she wanted a giraffe set for herself. This is the pattern for the hat that I made for my wife accompany the giraffe scarf that I made her.
MATERIALS:
Worsted weight yarn: Yellow, coffee, and black
H crochet hook
Tapestry needle
15 mm yellow and black safety eyes
BODY:
Rd 1: With yellow, 11 dc in magic ring, join to first dc. (11)
Rd 2: Ch 2, 2 dc in each dc around, join. (22)
Rd 3: Ch 2, (dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc) around, join. (33)
Rd 4: Ch 2, (dc in next 2 dc, 2 dc in next dc) around, join. (44)
Rd 5: Ch 2, (dc in next 10 dc, 2 dc in next dc) around, join. (48)
Rd 6: Ch 2, (dc in next 11 dc, 2 dc in next dc) around, join. (52)
Rd 7: Ch 2, (dc in next 12 dc, 2 dc in next dc) around, join. (56)
Rd 8: Ch 2, (dc in next 13 dc, 2 dc in next dc) around, join. (60)
Rd 9: Ch 2, (dc in next 14 dc, 2 dc in next dc) around, join. (64)
Rd 10: Ch 2, (dc in next 15 dc, 2 dc in next dc) around, join. (68)
Rds 11-16: Ch 2, dc in each dc around, join. (68)
Finish off. Weave in ends.
EARS (MAKE 2):
INNER EARS (MAKE 2):
Rd 1: With coffee, 6 sc in magic ring. (6)
Rd 2: (3 sc in next sc, sc in next 2 sc) around. (10)
Rd 3: sc in next sc, 3 sc in next sc, sc in next 4 sc, 3 sc in next sc, sc in next 3 sc. (14)
Finish off.
OUTER EARS (MAKE 2):
Rd 1: With yellow, 6 sc in magic ring. (6)
Rd 2: (3 sc in next sc, sc in next 2 sc) around. (10)
Rd 3: sc in next sc, 3 sc in next sc, sc in next 4 sc, 3 sc in next sc, sc in next 3 sc. (14)
Finish off.
EDGING:
Rd 1: Holding an INNER EAR and OUTER EAR together with wrong side touching and working through both thicknesses, starting in middle sc of 3 sc point, attach yellow, ch 1, sc in same sc as attachment, sc in each sc around with 2 sc in top point of EARS, sc in same sc as first sc, slip st in first sc.
Finish off leaving a long tail. Sew EARS to HEAD. Weave in ends.
HORNS (MAKE 2):
Rd 1: With coffee, 6 sc in magic ring. (6)
Rd 2: 2 sc in each sc around. (12)
Rds 3-5: sc in each sc around. (12)
Rd 6: sc2tog around. (6)
Rds 7-8: sc in each sc around. (6)
Rd 9: (sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around. (8)
Rd 10: sc in each sc around. (8)
Rd 11; (sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around. (10)
Rd 12: sc in each sc around. (10)
Finish off leaving a long tail. Sew HORNS to HEAD between EARS. Weave in ends.
NOSE:
Rw 1: With coffee, ch 7, sc in second ch from hook and each ch across. (6)
Rw 2: Ch 1, turn; 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc. (8)
Rw 3: Ch 1, turn; 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 6 sc, 2 sc in next sc. (10)
Rw 4: Ch 1, turn; 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 8 sc, 2 sc in next sc. (12)
Rw 5: Ch 1, turn; 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 10 sc, 2 sc in next sc. (14)
Rws 6-10: Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc across. (14)
Finish off leaving a long tail. Sew NOSE to front of BODY.
NOSTRILS (MAKE 2):
Rd 1: With yellow, ch 2, 4 sc in second ch from hook working around ch, slip st in first sc to join. (4)
Finish off leaving a long tail. Sew NOSTRILS to NOSE.
SPOTS (MAKE 6):
I made six spots for the hat that I made for my wife. Feel free to make as many as you would like.
Rd 1: With coffee, 6 sc in magic ring. (6)
Rd 2: 2 sc in each sc around. (12)
Finish off leaving a long tail. Sew SPOTS in random places on BODY of hat.
EYES (MAKE 2):
Rd 1: With black, 6 sc in magic ring. (6)
Finish off leaving a long tail. Sew EYES to BODY.
