This is rendering of the famed Batman character from DC Comics’ Batman comics. It is the continuing series of dolls depicting popular comics book characters. I starting on comics characters as a respond that I was making characters that were for girls. This pattern can be used to make any version of Batman from the TV series to the movies.
MATERIALS:
Worsted weight yarn: Buff, white, black, yellow and gray.
D crochet hook
Polyester fiberfill
Craft foam
Markers
Craft glue
Tapestry needle

BODY:
Rd 1: With black, ch 2, 5 sc in second ch from hook working around ch. (5)
Rd 2: 2 sc in next 2 sc, sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc. (9)
Rd 3: (sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around. (12)
Rd 4 (sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around. (15)
Rds 5-6: sc in each sc around. (15) Change to buff.
OW WORKING JOINED ROUNDS.
Rd 7: slip st in next sc, ch1, sc in same sc as slip st, sc in next 5 sc, change to black, sc in next 9 sc, join with slip st in first sc. (15)
Rd 8: Ch 1, turn; sc in next 9 sc, change to buff, sc in next 6 sc, join. (15)
Rd 9: Ch 1, turn; (sc2tog) 3 times, change to black, (sc2tog) 4 times, sc in next sc. (8)
NOW WORKING IN UNJOINED ROUNDS AGAIN.
Rds 10-11: sc in each sc around. (8)
Rd 12: (sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) around. (12)
Rd 13: 2 sc in next 5 sc, sc in next 7 sc. (17) Change to gray.
Rd 14: sc in each sc around. (17)
Rd 15: (sc2tog) 5 times, sc in next 7 sc. (12)
Rd 16: sc in each sc around. (12)
Rd 17: sc in next 2 sc, change to black, sc in next sc, change to gray, sc in next 2 sc, change to black, sc in next 7 sc, slip st in first sc. (12)
Rd 18: Ch 1, turn; sc in next 7 sc, change to gray, sc in next sc, change to black, sc in next 3 sc, change to gray, sc in next sc, join changing to black. (12)
Rds 19-20: sc in each sc around. (12) Change to gray.
BEGIN STUFFING BATMAN DOLL AT THIS POINT AND CONTINUE TO STUFF AS YOU GO.
RIGHT LEG:
Rd 21: sc in next 3 sc, skip next 6 sc, sc in next 3 sc. (6)
Rds 22-26: sc in each sc around. (6) Change to black.
Rds 27-28: sc in each sc around. (6)
Rd 29: sc2tog, sc in next 4 sc. (5)
Rd 30: sc in next sc, 2 sc in next 2 sc, sc in next 2 sc. (7)
Rd 31: sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next 2 sc, sc in next 3 sc. (9)
Rd 32: sc in each sc around. (9)
Rd 33: Working in back loops only, (sc in next sc, sc2tog) around. (6)
Finish off. Whipstitch the opening closed lining the stitches up. Weave in ends.
LEFT LEG:
Rd 21: Attach black in first skipped sc f Rd 20 with slip st, ch 1, sc in same sc as slip st and in next 5 sc. (6)
Rds 22-33: Repeat instructions of RIGHT LEG.
ARMS (MAKE 2):
STUFF ARMS AS YOU GO.
Rd 1: With black, ch 2, 5 sc in second ch from hook working around ch. (5)
Rds 2-4: sc in each sc around. (5) Change to gray.
Rds 5-9: sc in each sc around. (5)
Rd 10: sc2tog, sc in next 3 sc. (4)
Finish off leaving a long tail to sew ARMS to BODY.
ARM SPIKES:
Rw 1: Working along side of Rds 2 through 4, attach black, ch 1, (sc, slip st) in same st as slip st, (slip st, ch 1, sc, slip st) in next 2 sts.
Finish off. Weave in ends. Repeat on second arm.
BELT:
Rw 1: With yellow, ch 29, sc in second ch from hook and each ch across. (18)
Finish off leavng a long tail to sew ends of BELT together after wrapping around BODY.
EARS:
Rw 1: Working on side of HEAD, attach black, ch 1, sc in next 2 sc. (2)
Rw 2: Ch 1, turn; sc2tog. (1)
Finish off. Weave in ends. Repeat on other side of head.
CAPE:
Rw 1: With black, ch 17, sc in second ch from hook and in each ch across. (16)
Rw 2: Ch 1, turn; sc in next 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 6 sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 4 sc. (18)
Rw 3: Ch 1, turn; sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next 2 sc, sc in next 6 sc, 2 sc in next 2 sc, sc in next 4 sc. (22)
Rw 4: Ch 1, turn; (sc2tog) twice, sc in next 14 sc, (sc2tog) twice. (18)
Rw 5: Ch 1, turn; (sc2tog) twice, sc in next 10 sc, (sc2tog) twice. (14)
Rw 6: Ch 1, turn; sc2tog, sc in next 10 sc, sc2tog. (12)
Rws 7-8: Ch 1, turn; sc in each sc across. (14)
Rw 9: Ch 3 (Counts as first dc here and throughout), turn; dc in each st across. (14)

ASSEMBLY:
Sew ARMS to BODY. Drape CAPE over shoulders and secure. Create Batman logo with craft foam and glue to BODY.
Use embroidery floss to embroider face on doll.
